The benefit of having a concealed weapons permit in the United States of America is that fact that you know you are always safe not having to depend on others, but having the ability to protect yourself. “In June 2008, the court ruled the law that strictly limited the possession of handguns in the Washington, D.C. area as unconstitutional (Levinson).” In our nation’s capital this happened, because if individuals were not given the right of a concealed weapon or any kind of gun that is not going along with the Constitution of the United States. Which States “"A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. (The Bill of Rights)" “The court ruled that …show more content…
they can have the satisfaction of knowing people around them could possible save their live, because of concealed weapons. Even though they can sometimes be permitted with the wrong person, and they make bad choices of use for their weapon, they can still benefit more than they hurt. In situations like a bank robbery a concealed weapon would come in handy. Not only would it save the person, but also everyone else in the bank. Another situation would be when a young girl walking home late at night and some guy comes and tries to attack her, but then she can defend herself by pulling out her gun. Both of these scenarios happen on a daily basis in all across the country. The use of concealed weapon permits will greatly impact how society can function in chaos and also in everyday actions. “Opponents of laws forbidding concealed weapons argue that criminals are less likely to commit crimes if they think their victims may be armed (Zimring).” Concealed weapons are usually hidden somewhere on the individual, but other times it is in plain sight. Most criminals that have attempted to harm someone that looked free from weapons, usually ended up curled on the ground or fleeing from the
Law abiding citizens should have the right to protect themselves against criminals. You are less likely to suffer an injury when attacked if you are carrying a handgun, as opposed to other methods of self-protection. The right to carry a concealed handgun is protected by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution states “the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed” (ProCon.org 1).Carrying a handgun could keep a lot of people from being killed during a public shooting incident. Concealed handguns protect citizens from violent crimes such as burglary and robbery. Most criminals are armed and you don’t have much of a chance of survival if you are not carrying a
First off most citizens do not have any training on how to carry or shoot a gun. This can result in someone being hurt or killed on accident. Secondly a citizen carrying a gun could result in a murder of another citizen over an argument over something. For example in 2014 a retired police officer shot and killed another man over an argument text messaging in a movie theater. Thirdly this gives criminals access to carry a gun and commit a crime wherever they may go. Fourthly a citizen that can carry a gun wherever will also encourage a criminal to carry a gun to counteract the citizen who with the gun. The Inter –university Consortium for Political and Social Research did a survey and found that 75% of criminals carry a gun because they are afraid that the victim has a gun. Fifthly people who do not believe in carrying a gun will be most vulnerable. Say for example an unarmed citizen is in a bar full of other citizens that are armed. If an argument were to start between them and everyone pulled out their weapons on each other than the unarmed citizen would be most vulnerable. Lastly all citizens have different viewpoints on just about everything. With different viewpoints a citizen who is armed could try to us their gun to solve any problems that person may
In current day society, it is frequently promoted as self-defense and our “duty” as Americans to own a gun of some sort. The second amendment to the constitution declares that “We the People” are allowed to bear arms because we live in a free State. Although these statements are true, at what cost? The question, “at what cost,” arises due to the recent push for an extension and enforcement of the second amendment. The people of the States have been pushing for desired concealed carry at public areas, such as schools. Statements and questions of concern have been on the as to whether or not this idea is “smart”. Contrary of it allowing some people to feel safe, the idea should be imposed. Guns are weapons and they have the history behind them
“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment supports conceal and carry by stating “the right to bear arms.” That statement should be exemplified as to have a gun in public. People need to have a weapon ready for use in case of emergency. Not in a car or locked up inside a house, but in reach of the certified personnel. According to the opposing side on ProCon.org, the article Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun states: “the amendment is not unlimited and should permit weapons only to citizens who can prove a ‘justifiable need’” (“Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun” 3). The article also has a women’s opinion on Conceal and carry. She stated “women need to be able to defend their home and defend themselves if they go out. It 's just a safety issue” (“Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun” 2). In order to feel safe, and have a reliable self-defense mechanism should be a justifiable reason for Conceal and Carry
Everyone has had that time in their life where they feel that they would be safer if they had some sort of protection, concealed carry is a great option for protection. Over the years it has been growing in popularity, more and more people are going out and getting their concealed carry permit. With more and more people going out and getting their permit, some may view it as dangerous, while others feel it is a necessity. Concealed carry is essential because, it allows added protection, has certain restrictions that the person must meet, and if guns are handled properly they are not as dangerous
This is caused because the more guns there, are the less violence there is. Dangerous criminals will think twice about robbing someone that has a gun. A victim with a gun is no longer a victim because they can not fight back against the attacker. Therefore, they can save their lives and save lives of the public which need help at that moment. Lott states, “The estimated annual gain from 1992 from allowing concealed handguns was over $5.74 billion” (House Report). This states that when a decline in violence goes down the amount of money goes up. Concealed guns can only benefit everyone in multiple ways. Concealed weapons can help create the feeling of safety and reduce violence. No one wants to live in
As of 2013, all 50 states allow concealed carry of handguns (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps), although a few states don’t require a permit and the standards for licensing vary greatly from state to state. In the U.S. most states are “Shall Issue” states. This means they will grant anybody a permit that meets certain guidelines such as being 21 or older and not having any felony convictions, a history of mental illness or domestic abuse. A handful of other states are “May Issue” states. In these other states, such as Maryland, a permit will only be issued if you can prove you need it. This can be a large obstacle and these states will usually only issue permits to people in the public eye, wealthy individuals that are well-connected or business owners frequently transporting large sums of cash (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps). Although the requirements and standards are different wherever you may live, one thing holds true- concealed carry permit holders are rapidly growing. The market for handgun training, concealed carry courses and smaller, more concealable handguns have opened up. When concealed carry was first gaining popularity there were two very different schools of thought. Some thought that violent crime would decrease, as criminals would fear the everyday person that just may happen to be armed. Others thought that having people carrying around concealed handguns in public would lead to an increase in violent crime with people losing their temper and shooting each other. When analyzing the data and crime trends, it is clear that with this influx of concealed carry permit holders there has not been a corresponding increase in violent crime.
Concealed carry holders reduce crime by having a firearm active within a moment’s notice to defend against all sorts of threats. The definition of defense is the action of defending from or resisting an attack. Open carry refers to when you have a firearm holstered and the handle of the weapon is visible from two or more sides. Concealed carry is covered by an article of clothing or garmentMany rapes and robberies could be prevented just by the presentation of a firearm (debate). That is very true when someone is staring down the barrel of a .45 cal 1911. Publicly carrying a concealed firearm is permitted for non-Law Enfo...
Many Americans are now applying for a license to carry licensed concealed arms with them. The rate at which licenses are being approved is worrying. This development is concerning law enforcement authorities. Putting so many firearms at the disposal of the public is counterproductive to the gains that are being made on improving security and especially in the cities where incidences of gun crime and violence are on the rise.
Nevertheless, guns are very dangerous and they are used in all sorts of criminal activities already. Therefore, the benefits of having a gun outweigh the drawbacks of not having a gun. No matter what each individual’s beliefs are in regard as to whether gun control should or should not be enforced, the Second Amendment of the Constitution gives each person the right to bear
Citizens want to conceal carry a handgun because every day there are dangerous individuals who prey on the weak. In addition to that, concealed handguns are an effective non-lethal form of self defense the majority of the time. Gary Kleck from the Federal Bureau of Investigation “estimated that, 2 million to 2.5 million victims annually use handguns to repel criminal attackers” (Kates). The surprise of being armed is the advantage for the victim, which the victim has the disadvantage of knowing the time and place of being attacked. Concealed carry actually provides protection to citizens that do not carry because the criminals are not sure who is able to defend themselves....
Concealed carry is among one of the most touchy subjects in America but it gives security to people who qualify to carry and is a basic right to the American people. Concealed carry varies from state to state but should not be prohibited anywhere due to the good it can and does cause. With dealing with weapons there is always the risk of bodily injury but that is reduced if the person next you possibly has a weapon. Not knowing who has a weapon keeps people from committing crimes simply from the fact that they don't know if people are exercising their second amendment rights to legally bare arms.
Concealed carries stopping mass shootings is rare because there are rarely people with a gun on them near shootings. Furthermore, most mass shootings happen in gun free zones, and law abiding citizens, who stop mass shootings, are actually listening to those signs and leaving their guns outside (Volokh, 2015). Although Volokh does not say directly, he seems to imply that if concealed weapons were allowed to be carried everywhere by permitted carries, then there would be more case of carriers stopping shootings. For instance, in 2009 a marine, Sean Barner, was attending a party when two armed men stormed in and forced everyone down. The gunmen separated the men and women and were discussing their plan to rape the women and killing everyone. Barner saw his opportunity to retrieve his concealed weapon without the attackers knowledge. He shot both men and saved everyone from serious injured (Volokh, 2015). This man was a marine so he was properly trained on the use of guns which further proves that if citizens are properly trained concealed weapons become an asset not a hinderance. Similarly, in Chicago an uber driver, who had a CCW license, shot Custodio who was shooting at a large crowd of people (Volokh, 2015). As demonstrated, if the concealed weapon carriers had been carrying openly, the attackers most likely would have shot them first or
So equipped with your handgun they are now less of trying to pull your card, because they know they’re going to have a right to shoot you at out of self-defense so it’s good in certain ways they Incorporated it in Texas now people can now better protect themselves from the Predators. There are a lot of crazy people in the world. Some people don’t know how to properly defend himself so on January 1st 2016 it allows people to have a license to carry a handgun in the same places that allowed the license carrying of concealed handgun. So describe crazy people are less tempted to do anything out of the ordinary noise it can also be loaded as long as it’s in the shoulder or belt holster. Sometime self defense classes will not be enough to protect your cell from a group of people now that you can openly carry a handgun the crime rate will go down because people now know people are curious about if I want. Also people can know feel a little safer knowing that people will not try them because they have a gun for protection. Everybody needs protecting in some time the police is not there to help so you’re going to need some way to protect yourself from these dangerous
Guns have always been and always will be a form of protection. A gun is the easiest way to keep the peace. Nothing scares someone more than knowing they could die. There are few people that are not scared of guns. When guns are in the hands of the right people peace will be kept and there are no problems. If a gun is in the hand of the wrong person then there is danger. The best way to stop the wrong person with a gun is a good person with a gun. That is why Americans have concealed carry. Concealed carry is a privilege that Americans have. It allows Americans to carry a handgun secretly in order to protect themselves. In order to obtain a concealed carry permit one has to take and pass a class. In this class people are educated about weapon safety and how to use weapons properly. Concealed carry is one of the greatest privileges someone can have. It is used to save lives. Many Americans have used concealed carry to save themselves and others. One case where concealed carry has saved a life was March 15th of last year. An ex-marine who recently acquired a concealed carry permit was driving home from work early in the morning. While he was driving he saw a man viciously hitting and kicking a woman. He jumped out of his car and drew his weapon. He yelled at the man to stop and pointed his weapon at him. The man st...
