Essay About Homework

Kids are always complaining about homework. Either they have too much, they’re tired and don’t want to do it, or it’s too hard. It’s a major topic that kids think about. Finland has one of the greatest education systems and is usually referred to as the best in the world. Something unique about Finland is that they strongly dislike homework. It is frowned upon in their school systems. They believe that material should be mastered in the classroom with the help of a teacher, and not at home by yourself, and after countless studies on the human brain, neurologists are starting to believe that homework actually has no value and could even hurt the human brain. Which poses the question: to what extent does homework benefit students? Well it clearly does not benefit students for three reasons that we will see. We can see that, first of all, it causes stress in a household, which is counterproductive to learning. Second, excess homework damages the human brain in both children and teenagers, and third, it takes time away from hobbies/ passions, family time, and becoming an adult (crucial things for development).

... of our youth, and slowly but surely they are being taken away. The worst part is that, referring back to my first point, colleges like to see these activities. So balancing these extracurriculars and homework leads to basically no sleep, which is detrimental to development.
According to the evidence stated previously, the choice is clear whether or not homework actually has benefits to students. It doesn’t because first, it causes too much stress on the students, second, it actually hurts the brain, and third, it takes away too much time from our lives. America’s school system should not only envy Finland for having the number one spot in education, but we should strive to be like them. If Finland looks down upon homework, and they are the best educators in the world, they are obviously doing something right, and maybe we should try to follow in their footsteps.
