Executive summary Introduction Entrepreneurship is still maturing as a field of study. Today the field of entrepreneurship has a large scientific fraternity that conveys itself through numerous conferences and journals. However, what Sexton asked ten years(1988, p. 4) ago is still relevant even today, ‘Is the field of entrepreneurship growing, or just getting bigger?’ Entrepreneurship has not yet had an established boundary which makes it difficult to define an entrepreneur. Without opportunity entrepreneurship wouldn’t be in existence. An entrepreneur can be very hard working and innovative but if there is no opportunity in the target market then entrepreneurial activities cannot take place. One of the main problems that continues to grow over the period of time is the validity of entrepreneurship as a separate field of study. There are a few essential constituents that need to be in place in order to view ‘’entrepreneurship as a distinctive domain and community’’ and for the aggregate knowledge development. The first constituent is that the field of entrepreneurship research should be approached hypothetically and empirically in terms of the phenomenon. The phenomenon of ‘’emergence of new economic activity’’ is at the core of entrepreneurship where economic term has a much wider definition than commercial.
