The sale of electronic cigarettes in 2012 alone was 1.7 billion dollars in the United States alone. The FDA is in the process of regulating what goes into the making of ecigs. These are just a few ideas from the article “Smoke Signals” published in Up Front Magazine by Alessandra Potenza. Electronic Cigarettes are proving to be healthier than traditional cigarettes and may help smokers quit their addiction, but they still pose a threat to younger generations due to their nicotine content.
Electronic cigarettes are being questioned by the FDA yet they’re used more than ever. But first, one needs to know, what is an e-cig? “Electronic cigarettes are battery powered devices that vaporize liquid nicotine without burning cancer-causing tobacco, thus producing an odorless fog-like smoke.” The vapors used in e-cigs come in all different flavors such as; bubble gum, vanilla and chocolate. These flavors appeal more towards the younger generation, then they should. That being said, many countries have decided on an official ban of the use of e-cigs. Countries such as; Canada, Mexico, and Brazil are a few of many that have placed an official ban on e-cigs. Most doctors state that e-cigs are better than the alternative of smoking real cigarettes. Smoking is the most avoidable cause of death in the United States, causing nearly half a million deaths each year. Such experts as Michael Spiegel, an expert on tobacco-control says “it's a heck of a lot better than smoking tobacco”. Which you could say, but due to the nicotine levels in e cigs it's still an addiction to the drug. This addiction has caused some to use ecigs or “vape” for fun or as a hobby. E-cigs are more effective than nicotine gum or patches. But due to the nicotine in them, once you start it's hard to stop. This wasn't the point of this could be useful
