Annotated Bibliography: Self-Sustaining Electric Cars With the growing issue of climate change, people have been trying to be more green than in the past. One attempt to curb the effects of climate change is to use electric cars because these cars use electricity instead of gasoline, therefore have no emissions. The power still comes from somewhere though. In Spokane, electric cars are green because most of the electricity is hydroelectric, but in other places where large rivers aren’t commonplace, electricity is provided by burning coal and other fossil fuels. This means that powering an electric car in those places, while still greener than driving a conventional car, still depends on fossil fuels. To solve the issue of electric cars being …show more content…

In fact, the only reason I have this source is to have a reliable source for the power consumption of the Tesla Model S. There is more information than just this however. The website includes information about the fuel economy, environmental effects, safety information, and basic specifications of the car. The significant features of the article include, but aren’t limited to, the car’s greenhouse gas emissions, safety ratings, and the average savings of driving this car over the average car. The article does not have an explicit author, but it is a government sponsored website containing statistics about the fuel economy of cars in America. Thus, the source is likely correct, and because statistics are usually objective, the source is not subjective. The website’s target audience is likely environment-conscious people looking to buy a new car, or people who want to buy a fuel-efficient car. This source is limited to the one fact I came to it for. However, I may find another use for it as there is much more information that is going unused, and the power consumption of the Tesla is a very important piece of information. Without it, it would be impossible to decide if the self-sustaining car is possible or not. This source relates to my paper because it is necessary to know the power consumption of a car in order to calculate how much power it would use, which is necessary to decide if enough power is being created to supply …show more content…

This is necessary because I am not an expert on photovoltaics, so a source is needed to validate the information I give on them. The source contains a detailed explanation of how and why photovoltaics work. The website’s notable features are its numerous graphics showing how the systems work. For example, there is an image showing the first solar battery prototype, and a diagram showing how solar panels are made. There is no explicit author, however because NASA is renowned for its knowledge of astronomy and science, I believe this to be a credible source. The website is also tailored for education rather than commercialism, which further validates the source. The website is targeted toward people interested in learning about the sciences. The source is very useful because it explains how solar cells work. This is useful because I can use it to give the reader a better understanding of solar cells, but this source is only useful for that. It does not give any statistics that can be used for calculations, and it does not give any information about other topics. This source relates to my paper because the car depends heavily on solar power, and giving the reader a better understanding of how solar panels work would allow the reader to better understand the rest of the
