Good afternoon Mr Williams and fellow Year 12 English classmates. My Name is Kailash and I stand before you not as a scientist or an expert or a politician but as a concerned high school student who wants to resolve the issue of climate change the better of the future. The topic for my debate is that climate change should be prioritized over economic concerns not just in Australia but around the world as the consequences are catastrophic in the long term if not dealt with properly. Most of these deals are agreed in the papers which never really come true in real life practical picture. Climate change has effects that will lead countries to sink due to problems such loss of agriculture therefore loss in food production, have major effects on the environment due to lose of habitats and warmer weathers. Have effects on coastal communities, infrastructure and many more. Highlighted in an article “Why climate change is Australia’s greatest national Security issue, published in The Canberra Times, Clive Williams mentions how climate change also directly influences military activity by changing areas available for training exercises and operations, reduction availability in water supplies, and increasing flood and fire hazards. It’s now more important than ever that we continue to put on pressure and making sure these promises are kept. That we raise more awareness of climate change and the effects of it, prioritizing climate change before its too late.
