Communication is the exchange of information or feeling between a sender and receiver. It is one of the basic needs of every human being. The aim of any communication is to receive a response. The term communication has different meaning reliant on the context in which it is used. It may be the exchange of information or feeling between two or more people. For this kind of communication talking and listening is necessary to exchange the information or feeling. To some, painting and dancing is also a method of communication. For this kind of communication talking or listening does not play any role for the exchange of information. Communication is a process which has two purposes. If the patient did not trust a nurse, anything that the nurse says to the patient is ignored. It is always important to make sure that a nurse takes necessary steps to have their trust. Honesty is the first step towards effective communication in nursing. Do not tell a lie to a patient or you are not going to do something or you cannot follow through. A nurse needs to be knowledgeable about what is being discussed with the patient. Nurse should convey confidence and certainty in what they are saying. Availability and responsiveness are other important factors for effective communication in nursing. Sometimes patient and family get annoyed when they feel that they are being ignored. Sometimes these feelings are justifiable. In this type of situation a nurse must consider the communication process and timing between the nurse and patient and make necessary action to correct
