“Wow…are you absolutely sure there is no chance our baby will not be born with Down syndrome?” I asked the doctor after being told my baby was not the healthy baby girl my husband and I had hoped for. “Yes, ma’am we are 100% positive your daughter has Down syndrome…now I hate to tell you this, but I must say the best choice for both you and your baby is to have an abortion.” The doctor said. Wait. What? My doctor wants me to abort my baby?? “Doctor, I understand that this is how you feel, but this is really shocking news and a lot to take in right now. Do you mind if we go home so we as the parents can decide what we need to do?” “Yes ma’am of course; however, I need you to make a decision as soon as possible”. After all, he has not said a word since the doctor delivered the news and I’m afraid that he is not going to like my decision. We really need to talk about this, I guess I better ask. “So what do you think about all this?” “Honey I know this is hard, but I want you to know I love you and this decision is yours to make. That being said, I feel like we will be fine, yes it is going to be hard raising a child with a disability like this, but surly our parents, church, and friends will help.” My husband
