Recommended: An essay on dog parks
I have a park about three blocks west of my apartment. This park is neighboring the Chapman Elementary School in the Alphabet District of Portland. Within this park, is a dog park, the Wallace Dog Park. A wood-chipped area with lots of shade for my lovely, furry Kiba-Roo to spend his time. Kiba is my three-year-old border collie, shepard mix dog. He also happens to be my best friend, my roommate, and my bed hogger. As far as being my roommate goes, he’s a terrible one. Toys never put back into the basket, always begging for my food, and might I mention, his fur isn’t going to vacuum up itself! Either way, I love him far too much to care about his living habits. Kiba and I adopted each other in January of this year. He received his name the day I got him. Kiba, meaning protector in Japanese, fit him perfectly. …show more content…
First, his eyes get wide, next he runs to his leash, then he prances back and forth between me and the front door. Once we set out on our short, yet lovely walk, we set our pace. Not too fast, not too slow. We send friendly faces towards those passing and we cross roads briskly but with caution. Not only is the walk to the park exciting, but arriving at a park full of wagging tails and friendly barks is not terrible either. I find this quality time with my dog to be very special. Going to school full-time and working a part-time job makes me truly appreciate the time we get to go to “our
Sociologically, a dogs contribution to a human lifestyle draws attention to the understanding that dogs play a prodigious role, especially in the 21st century where they are best known for being companions. Dogs have the ability to shape a person in a particular way, whether it be positive or negative. This concept seems to be quite popular in which quite a few articles have been published on the subject. Located in the popular Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in California. Every year, mother nature’s breathtaking beauty attracts millions of people from around the world. People hike for three long and fatiguing hours in anticipation of witnessing forceful water rushing down the steep mountain from 2,425 feet above. Last summer, my family and I backpacked through the Yosemite Falls Trail and I came to learn what a truly exhausting experience it is.
Is it strange that I don’t have a dog, but I love the opportunity to observe the antics at our local off leash dog parks? Frankly, every time I visit an off leash park I am reminded of The Breakfast Club, the 1985 coming of age movie about High School cliques and stereotypes. Seriously, take a moment to sit and observe the action. You will notice the athlete, the spoiled rich kid, the brainy nerd, the introverted loner and the rebellious punk all joyously sniffing and romping gleefully while their humans mix and mingle. Just like the movie, the dogs seem to come together, bare their souls and discover that they have more in common than first thought.
“He told to not forget to mention him, but I all of the training. Although, he helps with taking care of the dogs,” Says Beverly. Since she has started raising she has taken a puppy each year and plans to continue because both she and her husband having always had dogs in their home.
I was sitting with my friend, Pistol on one of the bucking shoots watching the barrel race.
They are very loyal and protective dogs. They are extremely intelligent and can learn both numerous and various tricks in a short and fast periods of time. Some can be found to be laid back, while others can be more temperamental. These dogs are always looking for something to do and should be put in a home where they can look forward to daily activity, exercise and training. Although these dogs can be mistaken for aggressive and even sometimes dangerous, these dogs will grow to be what they are brought up to be. If you want a loyal, smart, loving companionship these dogs will be there to the
Like humans, dogs need exercise. It is wise to take house-dogs on walks throughout the day. It helps them burn off energy and work their muscles. Dogs are also very social and need interaction with other pets and their humans. Once or twice a week the owners should take their dog to a puppy playground or dog park; this gives them the opportunity to become socialized. Denying these basic elements of a dog's life is one of the worst forms of animal abuse. This is the practice of puppy mills across the country.
Abstract The focal point of this observational study is to examine dog owners and their dogs in their natural setting. The purpose and goal is to gain a deeper understanding of how people and their dogs react around other dog owners and other dogs. This study delves into the norms and characteristics associated with the dog park. After visiting Chapin Park in Wichita, Kansas over 4 weekend day periods for an hour each in the mornings, there are a few common themes that can be derived from observation, themes of which can easily be compared to past observational studies.
A dog par can be a good experience for dogs because they can feel the relaxing place where they do not have to use leash, so they are free to move wherever they feel like to inside of the park. This situation can be helpful to the people, since they are free of worries of their dogs because a big closed pet-friendly place would give them the confidence that there are no hazards, like vehicles, or any damage to the dog. Also, a dog park in the city would help to create friendship and an identity of community since dog owners do not have to go to other cities to enjoy of these kind of parks. Instead, they can be part of an identity and recognize themselves with their own city.
When the dog is walking the owner is walking as well. Every time the dog is being played with the owner is getting some kind of exercise done. Exercising daily is really important especially now a day when the obesity rate is so high in this country. Even when one doesn’t want to take the dog out dogs can be pretty persistent and will have the owner playing with them in no time. Living an active lifestyle also means that one will be healthier as
‘My dogs barked furiously at the cars that drove up to the front drive, laying in my bed trying to sleep, I feel like the Scrooge waking up on the wrong side of the bed. My dogs barking wildly makes me quiver with anger as I scream at them, I tell them to, “SHUT UP!” , In a loud thunderous voice. And in an instant, the room fills with silence as the poor pups wander cautiously into their kennel, as if ashamed that they made me mad. Finally, I was able to wander zombie-like back to my bed, only to fall slowly onto my nice white fluffy cotton sheets, where slumber hit me like a train in the night.’
When I got him, he was only ten months old and he was a very untrained dog that wanted to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. After a few months of training he was an amazing dog that listened and he became a gentle giant. When I brought him home he bonded immediately with my other dog
The high demands that are placed on pet owners when a dog is selected sometimes wreak havoc soon after it is introduced into the family. Dogs are high maintenance with an above average degree of time requirements that usually become a hindrance to pet owners in the early phase of ownership. The cat does not present these problems, which is part of the low maintenance advantage many pet owners seek. Dogs can have separation anxiety, use the bathroom in the home for spite when left alone for long hours, and usually requires lots of exercise which mandates the pet owner to be available during the day to provide the appropriate amount of exercise needed by
As the sun came into view, I rushed out of bed and into the living room. My dogs followed me like a pack of wolves. I immediately lead them outside the back door where there is a fenced area, so they could use the restroom. Once they finished their business outside; they ran up the stairs and into the house. Sometimes my dogs are excessively loud with their mouths. Whenever they are out of dog food or need more water they let me know by barking. It is one of their ways of communication. The way they stare into my eyes with joy is another form of communication. Taking care of a dog is not difficult; however, they do take immense responsibility. Now that I know how much responsibility it takes to own a dog, I can use it in the future.
