Parole and Probation have several advantages when it comes to managing offenders. When well implemented, they can be both effective and efficient as a way of dealing with offenders. Given the fact that the main role of the correctional systems is not to punish but to correct and reform, it is necessary to identify offenders who are worthy of being given a second chance to make sure that they are given a better environment to reform as opposed to sending them to prison. Apart from being an effective way to manage some types of offenders, parole and probation can help in managing prison population. However, the number of cases in such situations is much smaller than for those who serve their sentence to term (Larkin, 2013). It is also good to note that offenders who are on probation are not just released to the community. They are not left to their own vices but rather are monitored by a probation officer not only to help them to go through the journey to reformation but to also help in protecting the society from probationers who may want to go back to society. They can monitor their location, their movement, and even other factors such as their alcohol level on their blood.The anklet can also monitor the movement and location of the offender which means that if they go beyond the area the condition of parole have delimited, the parole officer will be able to know and re arrest the offender who has violated the parole or probation conditions. Another way of monitoring those who are on probation and parole is by the officer showing up randomly at their homes, the offender reporting certain days and times to the office of the probation/parole officer, giving the offender a curfew. There are many other way options and/or ways to monitor those offenders who are being released by the correctional system. Giving offenders parole or probation is also likely to have a positive mental and psychological impact on them.
