The Ancient Roman and Egyptian empires are well known around the world as the two most predominant empires in the Ancient era. Architecture was something that was rising and evolving at the time of these empires. The Egyptians built temples, monuments and the most famous of them all, pyramids. On the other hand, The Romans created an entire city consisting of many famous structures, including The Roman Colosseum. The Egyptian Empire came before the The Roman Empire and they invented many new ways of architecture. The Romans came after and perfected all of the previous inventions and created the most famous ancient city today. Although architecture showed power in both the Roman and Egyptian Empires, the fundamental design of Roman architecture showed their mastery and knowledge of the topic.

One of their most famous inventions that is still commonly used today was the column. The Egyptians created stone columns that “served no architectural purpose” and were only used for aesthetics. Although columns were used in architecture only for aesthetics, it showed power because of the technology needed to create them and the art and designs on the side. The Egyptians also created pylons that also had very little architectural purpose. Pylons were massive walls used to “support flagpoles and to anchor the entrance doors.” Although these structures are very large and looked powerful, there were lots of easier ways to achieve their same purpose. The Egyptians also made a few key contributions to decorative architecture that improved the appeal of large structures. All of Egypts key inventions were aesthetically based which shows power but also a lack of intelligence and mastery of architecture.
