Although the political parties of today are different in many ways, the assertion that “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the two parties” is not entirely off base. The parties may seem to be different enough at first glance: they have different issues they focus on and different opinions on those issues, but the end result is too often the same: both parties receive massive amounts of money from corporate special interests – special interests that want and most often get a say in how the government is run and what policies will be enacted. According to an article published by CNN earlier this year, President Obama and many Republicans and Democrats agree that the targeted drone strikes that have placed many innocent individuals, both American citizens and not, in the crossfire are necessary to ensure the national security of the United States (Cohen and Pere). While it is true that President Obama put in place new restrictions on the type of in response to public outcry about how many innocent people were being killed by drone strikes gone awry, it is not clear whether these new restrictions are having any effect on the volume of people being killed by drone strikes. What is clear is that Republicans share the President’s view that “targeted” drone strikes are the best solution to the terrorism problem.
