The word respect, in the most simple definition, means to admire someone and applaud them for their abilities, and to give people a certain amount of awareness of their existence. There are many aspects of respect, but I am going to be focusing on just a few. Honesty is one of the biggest aspects of respect. Before I begin with this point, I want to clear up a misconception about “being honest”. Being honest does not mean to be rude and obnoxious with your statements, Telling someone that they are “ugly” is not being honest, it is being rude and does not help the person in ANY way. Honesty is when you tell people how something really works, and giving constructive criticism, such as “I enjoyed your presentation, but you should work on giving more eye contact and speak a little louder.” This is good, because it gives that person some honest feedback, and helps them improve and grow. …show more content…
The next aspect of respect is your ability to be engaging in a conversation, speech, or any other social situation. Things such as--eye contact, body language, posture, and tone of voice--can show a person if you are interested in the speech or conversation. It is a sign of disrespect to talk during someone’s presentation. Texting, answering phone calls, and scrolling through social media are also signs of disrespect. Think about this, if you were presenting a project you worked really hard on, and half of the people were talking and the other half were on their phones. Doesn’t sound pleasant, does it? So extend that same respect to other people. The last aspect that I will discuss, is one of the most important ones, self respect. If you don’t have respect for yourself, how are you going to respect other
Respect to me is admiring someone for their abilities, qualities, or achievements. I think respect is always earned an can never be given. As soldiers soldiers we should always respect our peers because they have made the same sacrifice as us. But as soldiers we should have a higher level of respect for our NCOs because they have done their time an have earned it. Being respectful is not hard it is simple, just treat others the way we would like to be treated ourselves.
When I think of what respect means to me, my definition is: listening and being mindful of what someone is saying or doing. The dictionary on Google has respect listed as: “admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements” (Google). I have never associated with respect with admiring someone’s abilities, qualities, yet along their achievements. The two different mothers in the stories view respect differently as well.
Through out history people have been influenced by what they want to hear and the way a current trend is happening. The evolution of mankind has drifted towards a different society than what we where born to sustain. We are emotionally driven human beings that want to feel accepted by the rules of society. Sometimes an individual can confuse actions or emotions towards trying to fulfill the standards society has imposed. I have analyzed two articles that incorporate how a society reacts towards integrity as well as honesty and the belief that an individual in order to be a part of society one must comply with the standards that are set. As I began to interpret what Stephen L. Carter explained in “The Insufficiency of Honesty” I examined they
Being honest is commonly seen as the path to righteousness, however only a few people have ever deeply interpreted it. When interpreted, one finds that honesty is less of a virtue but rather a conceptual idea that fosters good and bad effects depending on when one tells the truth. While some may argue that honesty is the best policy, in reality, it is not necessary to always speak the truth because it can possibly harm, not only oneself, but others as well. Although being honest is definitely not a bad thing, the border between when honesty may or may not be the best policy is determined by integrity.
Honor is high respect for others and yourself. For an example, a man sacrifice his life to save a friend. A quote about honor is “Honor is like a match, you can only use it once -Marcel Pagnol. An honest person may find others see him/her as more worthy of trust.
Honesty is a somewhat more complex idea that covers a broader range of requirements. Honesty is truthful, reliable, trustworthy, and open. It encompasses the virtues of truthfulness without the gaps. Being honest implies that you are willing to tell the truth at cost of personal risk. It implies being open and truthful no matter the conditions one faces. Real honesty means telling the truth out of respect for others and for oneself. Someone who is honest does not necessarily have to be asked in order to tell the truth; it is their standard of conduct and communication.
Admit it: You 've lied. We all have at some stage or point in our life. Whether you 're asserting your feelings, getting it off your chest or just being plain and distinctly honest, the truth about honesty is that honesty isn 't always the best artery of choice. What 's more, striving on the avenue of complete disclosure can drive an unwanted wedge and result in permanent closure on a relationship. Today, the consequences of lying are often veiled from reality, the unvarnished truth is, we don 't need weapons to fatally hurt those closest to us as the act can be equally carried out with the sharp verbal cuts of a truthful tongue.
As you can see, the definition of honesty and integrity go hand in hand. Just as Spencer Johnson tells us, “Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people.” Without honesty, there is absolutely no integrity. In the past few years, many major corporations conducted tests to determine how much of the world’s population was considered, “honest.”
It might not be an overused, popular word, but it is definitely a word which people take for granted. It is a word when people hold their heads up so high without even upholding the principle for real. It is a word feigned by most people and it is definitely a word which is undervalued; integrity. By the definition of the dictionary- where you can just find anywhere be it the library, book store or online- integrity means the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles or which you can define in a more simple way, moral uprightness. Sure, integrity is just generally one’s personal choice to uphold moral and ethical standards and it differs for everyone.
What is Honesty? Honesty is viewed in many different ways and for myself and everyone else; honesty is the biggest thing that will get one through life. People view people different if they lie, cheat, or even steal things but if you’re honest with everyone they will forgive you instead of lying and having to lie to back up your first lie. Just being honest should be everyone’s goal in life. It speaks to ones character to stand up and take ownership of the truth.
Honesty. What is it? Well, I could just say that honesty is telling the truth, but there's much more to it. I'll start off with the regular and common meaning.
Honesty is simply one being truthful. Some people may define honesty as telling the truth, but there is much more to an “honest” person. A person who is honest is not only truthful to themselves, they are truthful to other people and maintain an honest character. Honest people are usually trustworthy and dependable individuals as well. Honesty is the foundation of all relationships whether it be friendships, colleague relationships, or intimate relationships. Being an honest person is an important character trait to acquire. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, honesty is a noun that is defined as “fairness and straightforwardness of conduct” (“honesty”). Honesty can take many forms. Although many people
Honesty not only encourages open communication between the employer but also with the employees and their co-workers. It typically leads to effective peer team building relationships with in any organization. When workers are honest about the various aspects of their jobs good or bad and need improvement the employer can take the appropriate action and fix certain situations. Employers also have a responsibility to hold up honesty and integrity. Those employers that are open with all of their employees about company policies and changes that affect not just the organization but the employees as well are more trustworthy and tend to have a great employee consistence rate than other employers that do not practice business like
To be honest is to be believed in to create a bond that will grow and prosper. To be dishonest is to be led astray to harm others to where they might get in trouble, injured, and even worse death and all bonds, present or future, will be no longer.
When a person thinks about honesty, they think about someone telling the truth. The definition of honesty is the quality of being honest, and being absent from telling a lie. Honesty has been used throughout all of history. This is a quality everyone needs in his or her life. But in present time today, not too maybe people aren’t as honest as they used to be, and this can really hurt us today as a nation. Using this quality can benefit a person in ways they never thought.
