The Volunteer High School has multiple assets that can help make the intervention of an on-site daycare successful. The built assets include the spacious, one-level school building and the available classroom that will be used for the day care. The school building is one-level, so all of the rooms can be easily accessed. If a teen mother is in class and needs to reach her child, she can walk to the classroom in a short amount of time. The classroom that will be used for the daycare is in the shape of a square and is very spacious. It has enough room to hold approximately six to eight children, two adults, and the necessary appliances. The room also has two doors. The underlying values of the intervention include, the dignity and worth of teenage mothers and their children, importance of an education, and significance of relationships. I believe the teen mothers at Volunteer High School and their children have dignity and worth. Due to the challenges of finding affordable child care in a rural area and having emotional support, it is difficult for teen mothers to graduate. I believe teen mothers and their children are worth supporting and advocating for and the intervention will reveal that to them and others. I highly value education. If teen mothers graduate from high school they will have more job and secondary education opportunities. The day care also, provides mothers with skills and education on parenting, which can help them grow as a parent. Lastly, I value relationships and believe it is important for teen mothers to have relational support to parent their children and succeed in school. The day care will allow teen mothers to connect with other teen mothers and teachers, which will provide emotional support. The day care will also allow the children to connect with other children and learn how to build relationships. Each of these values align with the NASW Code of Ethics. Service, social justice, dignity and worth of a person, and importance of human relationships are four of the values from the NASW Code of Ethics. The value of service aligns with all of the values that underling the intervention because the daycare will provide a beneficial service to teenage mothers and their children at Volunteer High School. The value of social justice aligns with the value of importance of education.
