In the field of abnormal psychology, the study of the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral problems is studied. Abnormal behavior is defined as behavior that is unacceptable in certain social setting, cause distress, self-defeating and often includes distorted thoughts. Having anxiety before a job interview is normal; believing that the interviewer will kill you is abnormal. Another example is depression, which under normal circumstances is acceptable; losing a job can trigger this. However, failing to look for a job and complaining is abnormal. the third example is a person with lung cancer continuing to smoke this is an abnormal act, any person going through a life threaten health scare would normally quit smoking. A splendid example of this one is the (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision. This is a ritual of cutting or removing of some or all the external female genitalia. This behavior is considered normal and found in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, and within communities from countries in which FGM is common. Typically carried out by a traditional circumciser using a blade, FGM is conducted from days after birth to puberty and beyond. In half the countries for which national figures are available, most girls are cut before the age of five. The practice is rooted in gender inequality, attempts to control women's sexuality, and ideas about purity, modesty and beauty. It is usually initiated and carried out by women, who see it as a source of honor, and who fear that failing to have their daughters and granddaughters cut will expose the girls to social exclusion.
