Throughout my life many people have come and gone. Within those people, few have stayed or managed to make a significant impact on my life. Who I am today is largely thanks to my parents, as well as the parents of my best friend since childhood. As if I had two sets of parents, both disciplined me, instilled manners in me, and encouraged me. Through this I have determined that the values I consider a priority are honesty, loyalty, and kindness. In addition, these are also the values that I want others to know about me. I base my actions on these core values. For example, I always try my best to be kind to every person, even if they are not the same to me. Honesty and loyalty go hand-in-hand for me; if you are not honest with people, you are not being loyal to them. Furthermore, I tend to judge people who are not kind as being unhappy with their life and project their anger onto others. When people are not honest or loyal, I judge them as being careless, disrespectful, and as if they are more important than others. After all my roommates graduated and moved out, I was given three new, randomly assigned, roommates. When they moved in I kept an open mind , hoping we would all get along. Shortly after, it came to my attention they had no respect for my belongings or bothered to include me in the setup of the apartment. It progressively worsened and I was faced with a dilemma. I knew I would be right for speaking up and fixing the immediate situation, but I felt it was also right to not say anything to avoid long-term conflict or tension. As stated in the Ward reading, ethics come from past experiences. Situations like this have come up throughout my life and I have made both the short-term and the long-term decision.
