1. Describe Concepts about Print in your own words.
Concepts about print are the most basic fundamental skill required to read any type of text. They include things like correctly orientating a book, opening the book from the right direction, identifying the title and body text, and understanding that text is read from left to right.

2. In the morning message and poem, how are students developing CAP? What instructional routines can make CAP explicit during these shared reading activities?
Students are developing CAP by following along and seeing how the text that is presented is being read. To make it explicit instruction the teacher can specifically identify what they are doing and do things like identify the title and ensure that students …show more content…

In January we see a large improvement in the students vowel recognition and they appear to have progressed to the late within word pattern stage. In June we see that the student only makes one mistake on the whole word list and it is one switched vowel sound, it can be said that the student has mastered this level.
15. Using the pacing guide from your text, what spelling patterns would you begin using in January? What spelling patterns would you begin using in June?
Long and short vowel patterns and dipthongs would be my focus following the January administration. After the June test I would progress to the next level of difficulty and focus on more complex spelling patterns.
16. How has the student's spelling improved over the school year?
By June the student has mastered all the words on the previous lists and makes only one mistake on the new words he was given.
17. How does the Words Their Way spelling inventory help you identify what to teach? (I am asking how this assessment helps inform your instruction.)
The Words Their Way assessment informs teachers what spelling patterns and sections within word patterns students are struggling with/developing and allows the instruction to be targeted to these specific patterns to continue the students progress.
