There is a lot of information about whether college athletes should get paid or not. It is clear that athletes work throughout their young lives to be offered the chance to play a college sport. College athletes deserve the opportunity to get paid just as much as professional athletes do because similar to professional athletes, college athletes spend just as much time in the weight room and on the field practicing. When are they suppose to have time to work to provide for themselves and sometimes for their families? A student athlete basically has two jobs, their sport and school. If they fail in school, it is possible that they can get their scholarship revoked. Receiving a salary can help motivate an athlete when it comes to school work. When it comes down to it, an athlete will chose the sport over school. Then again, their sport does sometime cause them to choose it over school. One of the NCAA’s most popular tournaments is the men’s basketball championship. An athlete participating in the tournament can miss up to a spring quarter of school days (Edelman 1). A full quarter of classes is a lot of days. A great deal of teachings can happen in a quart full of days. Of course when the athlete decided to become a college student athlete, they knew there would be a lot of sacrifice they would have to make with school. It is still not fair. The athlete still gets compared to the other non-student athletes in their class. That is not fair at all. College athletes typically have worse grades than their non-athlete peers.
