Being a student that is studying to be in the helping field and becoming a professional social worker, it is important to understand and be aware of the different communication styles because you will encounter situations in which you will have to intervene in one on one sessions, small groups, and large entities. Knowing your communication style will help you become a more effective social worker because you will be more beneficial while assisting your clients.
The three different communication styles are contributor, collaborator and challenger. After completing the survey I found out my dominant style was the Contributor. The Contributor role inside of the group is the individual who keeps in track of the tasks and gets the team to focus on completing the task. The role that I scored the lowest in was the Challenger. I scored a 47 for Collaborator and a 52 on Contributor but I also understand why I might have scored higher in the Contributor. Being the President of my organization on campus, Sisterhood of Success, the role of Contributor comes into play because I am usually the person that puts together the agenda for the programs and makes sure the rest of the board gets on board with the plan.
Another example of a contribution my style makes inside of a group environment is trying to make sure that everyone understands the task that was asked of them so they will be able to accomplish it effectively and in a timely manner.
