This interview was conducted to assess whether siblings of children with autism were at greater risk of emotional and behavioral problems. In the interview, 50% of the participants stated that siblings of children with autism are not at greater risk for emotional and behavioral problems. The other 50% of participants stated that siblings of children with autism are at risk for some emotional and behavioral problems because of the time and attention taken away from the siblings. Moreover, all participants reported that the relationship between siblings of children with autism normally are varies. Some siblings are upset because of the challenging behaviors of their autistic siblings and sometimes, they do not want anything to do with their siblings. …show more content…

Can you tell me of any times you had to assess the emotional or behavioral problems of siblings with autism? “I have not necessarily assessed the emotional and behavioral problems of siblings of children with autism. However, I normally look at the feelings and emotions of siblings when they come to the sibling program. At the program, they are encouraged to talk about their feelings and also teach them coping skills regarding how to deal with their siblings autistic behaviors.”

8. How does having a sibling with autism impact the emotional and behavioral development of siblings of children with autism?
“The siblings tend to grow faster and sometimes play the role of the parents and having a an autistic sibling do not impact the emotional and behavioral development of the siblings of children with autism”

9. Do siblings of children with autism mimic the behaviors of their siblings? “I haven’t seen such behavior; however, it is possible for it to happen.”
