Whenever I learned to trust and turn to God, I found His comfort to satisfy my soul. These traumatic events can present themselves in the form of a somatic injury; psychological or physical abuse or even through natural disasters or terrorist attacks. Nevertheless, any type of traumatic event can lead to devastating lasting effects in an individual’s lifespan. Consequently, producing a distrustful view of the world, mental health symptoms and even to mislay complete trust in God. However, we are resilient beings who have the capacity to turn unfortunate circumstances into valuable experiences, but in order to be able to do that there has to be an understanding and a purpose as to why traumatic situations do happen. A connection with God can provide the answer as to why people go through this traumatic events. Understanding the purpose behind a devastating experience can stimulate the healthy psychological and physical growth of a human being. The bible provides an insight on how spirituality can lead to recovery even in the midst of traumatic experiences. 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (Open Bible, 2015). Psalms 107: 13-16 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and burst their bonds apart. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he shatters
When creating and implementing a policy for trauma-informed care for clients there are several components that should be taken into consideration. The purpose of a Trauma Informed Policy is to promote resiliency, health and wellness for those who have experienced trauma as well as their families (Clackamas County Behavioral Health Division (CCBHD): Trauma-, 2014). To do this the policy must create a minimum standard of care for those helping individuals with mental health and addiction challenges created by the impact of trauma. The policy must establish a standard to provide treatment in a trauma informed manner, increase access to effective and appropriate services for individuals who have experienced trauma, and alleviate vicarious traumatization of treatment providers along with any other person working with traumatized individuals.

Job, there has been a book written about your suffering, which is beneficial. The benefit of the book called Job is giving people hope when they are suffering. Further, it is about a God who is there for them. Romans 15:4 illustrates this idea for us, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” As a Christian studying this book I have learned much from your story. Job you are an excellent example for the rest of us because even though your friends were not good friends, through all of your suffering, you stood firm.
The human experience is what connects people to one another. What we experience defines who we are and who we become. It also defines how we interact with others. The amazing thing is that not only do the events that bring joy, peace and happiness connect us but also those that bring anxiety, fear and despair. This brings to light the fact that God somehow in his sovereignty uses all things for the good of those who love Him. These ideas are brought to light in Jerry Sittser’s book, A Grace Disguised which is his personal journey of loss and the insight and experience that was gained in the face of great tragedy. In his book, Sittser discusses various insights he has gained, such as how Christian’s view sorrow, how families recover when someone they love develops a mental disorder, and the Christian view on suffering and forgiveness. I believe that the author has written a book that has many universal truths that can be applied to anyone’s life and they have the ability to bring healing to many. His ideas can also aid professionals who work with the mentally ill in becoming more compassionate.
One of the simplest coping methods is resentment or fear because it gives you a reason to condemn or ignore the issue at hand. However, what already happened is out of your control, much in the same way that hypothetical disasters are, and approaching these issues cautiously and with a will to understand them will allow you to grow as a person, not foster fear and resentment. It’s better to make peace with your demons, not create new ones. Ultimately, Susannah’s experiences will remain with her forever, but, as she stated in her memoir, “it does not control me or hinder my resolve” (Cahalan 240). I don’t doubt that the loss of control that ruled her life for that fateful month continues to terrify her, but she hasn’t allowed that fear of what she can’t control continue to dictate her life. As the years went on, we were so immune to it that it became the norm and he made us believe in his own twisted way that we desired it.
