Child soldiers are individuals under the age of 18 who are forced to fight within armed forces. According to UNICEF 30,000 children worldwide are considered to be child soldiers.Kidnapped from schools and homes to be used as cooks, guards and spies. Girls are especially targeted and used as sex slaves or given as wives to commanders. In 1989 the Convention on the Rights of children layouts, articles about the correct treatment of any child. Currently, child soldiers occur all around the world, however, Somalia is a particularly threatening location. Domestically in Somalia’s Provisional constitution, it is illegal to recruit children under the age of 18 for any armed forces. However to do the lack of authority or police force protecting children from abduction the issue is increasing. According to the UN, child soldiers have increased by 50% from 2015. Due to Somalia’s worn then state, the lacking of legal response leads to ineffectiveness. Inconsistencies between law and administrative regions mean that there are no domestic precedent case or current statistics from the country. The government must increase education by informing children about their rights and giving weekly defence lessons. There should be lockdown drills in school to protect children from abductions. Moreover, aid disadvantaged children as there are easy targets by giving them food and shelter. Therefore depicting the need to be immediate domestic legal changes as Somalia’s current law is highly
