Many of the Chesapeake Bay’s inhabitants are unaware of the destruction they are triggering. The Chesapeake Bay is a local estuary in the watershed near our home in Loudoun County Virginia. With its monumental size, various problems occurring are anticipated. Pollution is the leading factor in this great body of water’s downfall. Without proper control being taken, this neighboring site of leisure, food resource, and tourist income will suffer and continue to decline. The cleanliness of the Chesapeake Bay is declining over time causing harm to many species that call the Bay their home.

Ranking up in age, this geographical feature was formed thirty five million years ago. “A rare bolide; comet or asteroid-like object, hit the area that is now the lower tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, near Cape Charles, Virginia”(Chesapeake Bay Program, 2012) This impact is the earliest stage of the Bay’s formation. For nearly two hundred years, pirates roamed this very body of water in search of gold and other buried treasures that were fabled to be found on the coast of the new world. “The first act of piracy was committed on the Chesapeake in 1635.” (Chesapeake Bay Program, 2012) An all-time childhood favorite, Blackbeard, legendary for his unique appearance, once sailed this very water in the midst of his many famous journeys. “Looking out at the Chesapeake Bay on a fair day, alive with many boats and ships, you might not suspect that the remains of many once-seaworthy vessels litter the Bay's bottom.” (Chesapeake Bay Program, 2012) Amongst the dirt and clutter of the current day litter left by careless tourists, many historical remains help add to the distasteful an disastrous clutter of the Chesapeake Bay.
