Personal Statement

When I was growing up, my uncle had built a company dedicated to sell chemical products. Every day he would teach me about his job, and the formulas he had created. Learning how he created those products, I became interested in the process of how chemistry, physics and mathematics worked together to make these day to day commodities. On top of all that, my increasing love of science led to a passion for computers, which ultimately made me major in computer science in high school, ending up in the top 3 of my class.

Before I started off college, I knew exactly what I wanted to be a chemical engineer. Inspired by my uncle and eager to understand the fundamental principles of chemistry, I set out three specific goals for me to complete during my time in the university. Don't you know that petroleum is a diminishing resource? Or things like, why not choose a different type of energy? But I knew deep down that it will be a long time for petroleum supplies to remain stable, and that there is a lot of growth and opportunity in this field. I also realized that although it is true that alternative energies are experiencing dramatic growth nowadays, the demand for petroleum and use of its derivations will always exist.

I envision a career in this field to get a chance to contribute a positive outcome to the petroleum energy industry, easing its recovery and improving its production. My plan is to work internationally, creating good and well established relationships between the Dominican Republic and others, and also observe and study the situation of petroleum in my country to see if there could be any improvement in
