Career coaching evolved over decades of great change and transition in the workforce. It became a service to help individuals and organizations to respond to, contemplate and prepare for all of these changes. There are some distinct differences between career coaching and other forms of career interventions. The coach is able to assist the client with navigating through concerns or desired change through skilled processes, industry knowledge and required considerations. Today, career coaching can prepare the client for the revolution that their work environment has placed upon them. The term means something a little different for career coaching and it could be stated as the facilitation of individuals to find their way to themselves (Cherry, Dr. Michael, 2015). While we can pinpoint various shifts of the work environment and some services or industries that developed in response, it is not as easy to pinpoint all of the specifics concerning career coaching or personal and organizational coaching, as a whole. Managers who want an edge over their competition and individuals who are at the start up level of their business can learn self-managed through the guidance of career coaches (Feldman, 2001, pg. 27-28). The techniques employed be the coaches are able to bring about self awareness, motivation and clarity for the individual or team. Labor market shortages and times of great transition are at the top of the list of situations that organizations are likely to find the greatest benefit from an investment in career coaching (Feldman, 2001, pg. 32-33). This is due to the fact that many of the resources that the managers find comfort in are either not available or are harder to come by. In some cases, the platform from which they are used to operating has shifted in a way that they were not expecting or they might need to learn how to pivot to find a solution or opportunity to meet their current needs. There are some more common or everyday situations that coaching could bring about solutions and positive outcomes for managers and organizations. Arrogance, abrasiveness and anger, along with poor mentoring skills, parochial attitudes and behavior in managers are clear diagnosis for the need for a career coach (Feldman, 2001, pg. 29-31). Managers do not always realize the consequence of their actions and attitudes, but coaching can bring about this
