There are hundreds of stories of high school students that people hear about on the news that have committed suicide or attempted to commit due to extreme bullying. When people hear these stories they feel bad and get mad because bullying should be completely eliminated from the academic area. So many studies have been made in regards to bullying with questions such as, Have you ever been bullied or know someone that has been bullied? Or how do you think the school employee should have handled it differently? Although schools talk about bullying more than any other problem, we still find that it occurs the most and sometimes it never gets resolved until it is too late. This includes everything a student is on while online on and off campus. This is a simpler method of bullying but it is one of the hardest. It is easy because the bully can hide behind the computer screen and the person being bullied could have no idea who is bullying them. This is also the main problem because while the police can track the address of the students computer, since it is online bullying, the students never want to tell anyone because they are embarrassed. 42 percent of kids have been bullied while they were online and one in every fourth student ends up being verbally attacked more than once. It is normal for girls to be the ones to bully more on social media because girls are typically not the type to do it in the open with the risk of being caught. Hiding behind their phone is better for them because they think that means they are invincible and they can get all of their friends joined in through their social media. This type of bullying is considered the worst kind because it never goes away. When someone writes something online about someone else and they decide to take it down, that statement made about the other person is most likely still on their computer and haunting them everyday. Many wealthy people have put a lot of money in different events that they have thrown to start helping people become aware of bullying and starting to think of way to prevent it. The month of October has been labeled bullying prevention month in the United States. “Groups across the country committed to stop bullying will release new resources, campaigns, and efforts aimed at bringing awareness to this important issue facing our youth” (Temkin). This month long event is to bring awareness to what is really going on in the bullying world and to help the students that are getting bullied find the courage to tell someone so it can stop. This year the Bullying Prevention Month founded many new initiatives such as releasing a toolkit that will help students through the bullying situations and has telephone numbers that they can call. Unity Day, on October 10, is when everyone in the world comes together and wears the color orange showing support across the world for the students who have been bullied (Temkin). On October 6th every year there is a run/walk for prevention of bullying that takes place in around 5 different states. This walk symbolizes the unity of people coming together for one cause. All of these things are in place to help people who are being bulled come out and tell someone. This is a huge help to the prevention of bullying and helps get the word out. If schools
