America. A country that was once an idea but then became several immigrants’ home. The idea to have this country was based on freedom of religion, freedom to vote and to be a democracy. Our country was formed based off the thought that all men are created equal. Every single person to walk America should have equal rights and everyone’s life was at equal value. No one was more important than the man next to them. There was no king to look up to, just a humble president. Once Americans became used to the freedom and equality, it just wasn’t enough. Our country became greedy. Americans and especially millennials don’t recall what it is like to fight for freedom. The last generation to fight is now in their sixties and older. We started off on a good foot fighting for our freedom, but then we took away freedom from others by enslaving them. This is a humiliating period in our country’s history. Everything has changed since, and it is a fact that our country will never go back to that. In the twenty first century we have riots and protests for what seems reasonable to some people. One protest that will be a part of history is the “Black Lives Matter” protest. Nobody’s life matters more than another person’s. There is not a problem with standing up for what you believe in as right. Some say the reason others are uncomfortable with the “Black Lives Matter” protest is because of the use of the word “black” (Halstead, 2017). The “Black Lives Matter” protest isn’t exactly the issue. The issue is that; a certain group of individuals make it as if their lives matter more than mine or any other American’s life. In an article written by, Gina Davis, she tells the story of how her boyfriend was verbally attacked in his college class by several women. Her boyfriend and his friend were the only males in the class. Davis believes in strong women but also states that she believes in a strong man. The topic of feminism came up in the class and her boyfriend said to the class that he likes opening the door for his girlfriend and taking care of her. The women in the class raised their voices at him and basically said they can do anything a man can do and they don’t need a man to take care of them. Davis’s boyfriend was trying to explain to all the girls that he would rather be chivalrous than to have his girlfriend do the same as him. In this particular college class, the girls were outraged (I Am A Female, 2016). Men try to be chivalrous but women are mad and say that they can change their own tire.
