Education is an important aspect in life. In order to have a successful lifestyle you need to obtain some form of knowledge. Whether you are young or old, you will learn something new in your daily life. Education is taught at a young age but, everyone does not learn at the same pace. Here in the United States, we provide several options for those students that need extra help to get them on the right track. Throughout this paper I will provide a solution for students who need alternative learning due to different learning styles, behavior experiences, lack of acceptance, and social exclusion. I will also provide the problems that the students may face when they are taking the alternative route.
In the United States there are so many different types of learning institutions. There are public schools, private schools, charter schools, alternative schools, colleges,

Some of the behavior problems consist of confrontations with the teachers, getting into fights with other students, and constantly getting suspended. This is considered as delinquent behavior. If the delinquent behavior continues the principal will then have to decipher the punishment for the student. Depending on the seriousness of the act, the student either go to school suspension, or three day suspension. The way public schools handle delinquent behavior is by sending them to an alternative school. Alternative education is structured to address the needs of students that cannot be met in a regular public school. However, the outcome of the student depends on their behavior and what their label consists of. Alternative education could either help or hinder the student. Students with behavioral problems take up most of the population of the school. When students do not feel accepted they shut down and do not learn as much as they possibly could. Furthermore, not learning to their full
According to Siegel and Welsh children who do poorly in academics and those they refer to as school under achievers are most likely to be deliequents.it is documented by both that school failure is a one stronger predictor of delinquency if compared with economic class membership, peer group relationships, radical and ethnic backgrounds. Studies comparing delinquents and non-delinquents academic records scores on standardized tests failure rates and other academic measure found that delinquents are recurrently academically deficient as compared to their counterparts and this is a condition which almost requires them to perform antisocial and delinquents acts.
The purpose of a high school education is to prepare one for college and ultimately, the workforce. By the end of freshman year, in high school, the average student has learned a sufficient amount of material in enough subjects , that he or she can be considered "well-rounded" in his or her studies. This is because the rate at which material is covered in schools, across the nation has increased dramatically compared to the past. Students now learn more advanced curriculum at a younger age, and this continues to become more evident year after year. High school has now become more focused on teaching students a small amount of information on several essential subjects, rather than having them focus deeply on the subjects they seek to pursue in career. Unfortunately, this shift in focus has caused the overall high school experience to stray away from its intended purpose. If students are not prepared for their career, what purpose does a high school education have? If High Schools inserted more elective course opportunities into their standard set of curriculum, it would further prepare students for the career of their choice, allow them to truly master a subject, build their confidence, and refine their talents so that they may grow and succeed their future occupations.
No classrooms. No teachers. No rules. Just you and library. Everyone has questions about their education, so what if education is taught in hundreds of different ways, and you never knew about it? There are charter schools, private schools, and Sudbury schools. Wait what are Sudbury schools? Sudbury schools are run by tuition like private schools, however this is where the student learns what is interesting to them. These schools run on honesty, independence, maturity, and motivation.
Today in the United States a free and appropriate education is available to everyone under the age of 21. “Only recently – indeed, only in the past century – have societies advanced the notion that every individual in a community should be educated” (Gardner, Kornhaber & Wake 1996). Furthermore each state has set mandates specifying what is appropriate by outlining requirements and standards each student is expected to obtain. For those students who are at risk of failure or students who are suspected of a learning disability are required by the ...
It takes a while to change any behavior. Part of the plan should be effective consequence strategies. Planned consequences reinforce the acquisition and use of alternative skills and reduce the effectiveness of problem behavior should it continue to occur. Having planned consequences should help teach the student that his/her use of alternative skills is a better way to bring about the desired result. Because it does take a while for a behavior intervention plan to change a student 's behavior, it is important that the IEP team decide what will happen when the problem behavior still occurs. If it is a manageable behavior, it is important to come up with responses that discourage the problem behavior and do not provide the function or desired result of the behavior. In some cases the behavior may be extreme. The IEP team should develop a crisis plan to address those situations. First the group needs to define what is a crisis. Then they should describe the intervention procedures to be put into place including who will be involved. They must identify the resources needed to implement the plan and agree on the procedures for documenting the use of the crisis
Schools are in great need of systems, processes, and personnel who are able to support the needs of students with problem behavior. Research indicates, however, that (while I am a big, fat cheater) information has not been made available to teachers and other professionals in a format that allows these strategies to become common practice. Many teachers choose isolated behavioral strategies that are not applied immediately after the problem behavior has occurred.
The K-12 public school system of the U.S. must be nurtured, diversified and promoted to a higher academic standard. The term “public education” means education that is publicly financed through various tax programs and those personnel in charge are accountable to public authorities and designated places of education must be accessible to all students with attendance mandatory unless specified through legal documentation. The term "public education" covers every type of public school from kindergarten through the 12th grade to include traditional, charter, magnet, vocational and various alternative schools.
Every country in the world places considerable value on education, for education occupies an important place in the country. However, school education in the United States is far too optimistic. The reason why the American education starts to lose its grip is that the current education systems cannot meet the needs of excellent education for cultivating the qualified students. Students from middle and primary school concern about their study in school when they show their limitations in mastering the basic knowledge. 1[Traditional way of teaching puts many emphases on the practical function and at most time, teaching serves for the particular purpose of school education].2[In addition, a highly relaxed education environment provided by the
Pioneers from the last three centuries believed that education should propagate the evolving child on different levels: not only intellectually, but also spiritually, morally, psychologically, emotionally and physically. Alternative Education is different from a comprehensive school and though a broad term, it is composed of many types of pedagogical approaches. Alternative education can be found in charter, state, home based learning, as well as independent schools. Alternative schools in my school district, emphasize smaller classroom sizes, on site counselors, advocacy groups, and the implementation of restorative justice. The schools are primarily for students with behavioral problems, struggling academically, previously incarcerated, pregnancy, and even some students that prefer small classroom settings and or accelerated programs.
However, implementing the ‘zero-tolerance’ policy has had adverse effects since it hasn’t been shown to improve the school’s overall safety. Instead, it is associated with: “ lower academic performance, higher rates of dropout, failures to graduate on time, increased academic disengagement, and subsequent disciplinary exclusions”. (Achilles). Schools with high suspension rates create a hostile environment with distrust between the staff and the student body because of the lack of ‘positive behavioral reinforcement’. If the students believe the staff doesn’t care about them, they will in return act like careless people. My cousin Jamal, claims that in his school students frequently disrupt the school day with verbal attacks with each other and even the staff--and sometimes the staff spits
One of the main reasons why this was the case, is because the free schools took student’s needs into consideration (Boss 1998). The needs for a flexible curriculum and self-paced learning were met by the free schools. All of these ideas have remained a part of society, as seen by the development of current alternative school settings.
2005 National Center on Education, Disability, and Juvenile Justice 2001; Roxalski et al. 2008; Wang et al. 2005; White and Loeber 2008). The lack of awareness of disability and the lack of action across the system that addresses disability and impairments of at risk children make difficult situations more complicated. These individuals who need special education need to be taught differently than kids who do not have disabilities. In the past there’ve been many different treatment program that have been tried for juvenile offenders. If you take Special education programs that are being used in schools and create a treatment program based on that, you can have a successful program for these teenagers. It is important to identify reasons why adolescence are committing delinquent acts, previous treatment programs, how special education is run in schools, and the differences between pull out programs versus integrated programs in schools to support special education programs in juvenile
A child’s ability to learn and understand the world around him is because of the education that they receive. The education system in each and every country tries to make sure that the future of tomorrow, which are our children, have the best education provided to them. The American education system is known in the world to be very effective, while U.A.E.’s education system is not well known and believed to be behind the times. The American education system has many similarities with the education system in the U.A.E., but there are some significant differences that need to be pointed out.
The American society have had several experimentation on the different kind of education systems and each one has had positive and negative sides. The decision to relook at the education system in place comes from observers who believe that there an identity that speaks of the past and the lesson along the way. This means that the stakeholders in the education system need a fact-finding and evaluation of the values in the current system before recommending a switch to previous system.
