The Friends Forever advertisement campaign is for Google’s Operating System which shows the pairing, mutual understanding and having fun of the most unlikely animals such as dogs and elephants, chimps and horses, tigers and bears. Nothing is mentioned about android, only at the end of the adverts there appears a statement that says ‘Be together, not the same’ and soon after the Android logo appears. The statement promotes our need for being unique within a population as humans are constantly trying to differentiate themselves from others. Android appears to advocate for this uniqueness by having a system which is able to run on the various phones which are represented in the advert by the different animals. According to Oetting (2016) most of the adverts on the web which get people to share and buy products are mainly emotional. Research has shown that people use more of their emotions rather than facts to make a deceision on whether to buy a brand or not. This makes important content in an advert void as emotions do not mainly disrupt decisions to be made but rather are the base from which decisions are made (Oetting, 2016). The Friends Furever advert which has been ranking as the most viral advert in Unruly since 2015 was successful due to its heavy use of emotional content of the pairing of the most unlikely animals such as an elephant and dog, demonstrating warmth, joy, friendship and inspiration. The use of emotional scenes of animals has rarely been used in the past since in the 1990s and the early 2000s most advertisers were mainly using humour and sarcasm and it became the norm with most adverts until people got tired. Although the ad is only 1:02 minutes long the only audible communication is ‘Ooh-de-lally’ a Disney Robin Hood song whilst the plot focuses mainly on the unlikely animal friends where at a certain scene an orangutan is scene having a friendly moment with its puppy friend. The final message on this ad is ‘Be together. Not the same’. The important point being that Android has different mobile products unlike its competition iPhone.
