Do you ever wonder why black students can’t maintain? Well education is very important in all our lives, today everyone must have some sort of education to support themselves or their families. Most people get an education to escape poverty. Most students are getting help from their parents, because of education they have and one good paying job and that gives them a lot of time to spend with their kids. . However poor student’s parents can 't help them because of lack of education they have to work two to three jobs to support their kids. The problem is African American youth are falling behind in America’s educational system.

I also learned that Children living below the poverty threshold are 1.3 times more likely to experience learning disabilities and developmental delays in comparison to children who aren’t poor. Also Poor children suffer from emotional and behavioral problems more frequently in comparison to children who aren’t poor. Gunn and Duncan also inform us “Emotional outcomes are often grouped along two dimensions: externalizing behaviors including aggression, fighting, and acting out, and internalizing behaviors such as anxiety, social withdrawal, and depression”. The law was supposed to make sure that poor children weren’t being left behind. To make sure kids were learning the federal government placed a heavy emphasis on standardized tests. According to chukka the law didn’t do much to close the educational gap between poor students and students who weren’t poor. However the law did force many urban schools to close because they were not meeting federal educational guidelines . Chukka also said “Instead of teaching students to learn the No Child Left Behind law forced teachers to teach to a test because they were being evaluated along with the students”. They wants us to believe everyone has the same opportunity, but the law in my eyes did nothing to fix our unbalanced educational system. When you know and understand all the problems poverty causes on children’s education it 's no surprise when you find out gut wrenching statistics. Cook says” I learned that African American students entering kindergarten for the first time score lower than their white counterparts in reading, mathematics, science, cognitive flexibility and approaches to learning in every category tested.
