Common App Essay Prompt
“College accepts students who are well rounded.” This is what my middle teacher told my entire class during our last day of school of my eight grade year. He then went on in saying “You’re going to be entering high school in a couple months. These are the years colleges will be looking at the most.” This speech that he made impacted me greatly. Since I was little my parents has stressed the importance of attending a college or university when I get order. One of the reasons being is that both of my parents did graduate college. They would always tell me about the jobs that they could not apply for because these jobs required a degree.
Now I will be attending high school the stress that I needed to do good so that I can get accepted to college and make my parents dream come true was overwhelming. I knew from my teacher said that college was looking for well rounded. So I decided that I need to join as much clubs and activities that I can. The four year at Verbum Dei High School has truly modeled this idea. There were clubs that I truly enjoyed being apart like ASB (Associate Student Body), Mayor Youth Council, Ambassador. There was clubs that I join just because like for example Green Club. I wanted to show colleges that I was truly active around campus. I also wanted to show college that I was involved in sports. Reflecting as a senior there was certain decision I made where clubs came first over academics. During my freshman year I was really involved in are student ambassador program. I really loved the high school I was attending and wanted to tell everyone. We would have events called Eagle for A Day. Where eight graders would come and we would tour them around campus.
