The famous sculptor that I chose to write about is Andy Goldsworthy. Andy Goldsworthy was born July 26, 1956 in Cheshire, England. Andy Goldsworthy’s parents name was Fredrick Alan and Muriel Goldsworthy. Andy’s father, Allan Goldsworthy, was a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Leeds. Andy love the outdoors at a young age so he started working on a farm at the age of thirteen in Yorkshire. It says by him working on the farm gave him a better understanding of nature. After working on the farm, he studied at Fine Art at Bradford School of Art and Preston Polytechnic. At Preston Polytechnic, he learned how to turn nature into work of art. Andy Goldsworthy is known for producing artwork using natural materials such as flowers, mud, leaves, twigs, pebbles, boulders, snow, thorns, bark, grass, and pine cones. By loving the outdoors so much, Andy Goldsworthy projects where made outside. After making them he would take photos of the art in different conditions. In the “Rowan Leaves Laid around Hole” was one of his best art pieces. Andy Goldsworthy won many awards for his artwork. The two most known words that he won was the Yorkshire Award and the Scottish Arts Council Award. He was also appointed officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2000. All artists are influenced by or incorporate issues and events of their time and place in their artworks. This statement is confirmed by a number of artists such as Polykleitos (5th century BC), Michelangelo (1475-1564) and the father of cubism, Picasso (1881-1973). Although some may be less influenced or may be one of the creators/fathers of their arts, all artists follow this statement as the time and place from where they were born helped mould the artists.
A gifted and dedicated student, Simon bypassed the counsel of his family and friends and left school at age seventeen to pursue his artistic dreams. He accepted an invitation to study at London Art College but soon realized that the liberal values of big city art schools were too conflicting with his own. Melvin Archie Jr. was born on 05/13/1948, in Canton, Mississippi, to Melvin and Lillie Mae Archie. Melvin's parents were married for twenty years before they divorced. Melvin and Lillie Mae had 2 children together. They are Melvin Archie Jr, age 67 and lives in St. Louis, Missouri and Nancy Archie, who passed away in 1994 of throat cancer, she was 44 years old. Melvin has 3 paternal half-brothers but he doesn't have a relationship with them other than limited Facebook contact. He attributes this to the large age gap. He stated that they live in Centralia, Illinois. Both of Melvin's parents worked outside of the home. His father was an oiler repairman for Missouri Portland Cement Company and his mother was a cook at a family owned restaurant

A historical artist I found interesting in the world of art is Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, commonly known as Caravaggio, an Italian artist in the Baroque Era (Ornate Age). Caravaggio was born on September 29, 1571 to his father Fermo Merisi and mother Luci Aratori in Milan, Lombardy. At the age of 11, he was orphaned due to the death of his parents and found work as an apprentice for a painter named Simone Peterzano for four years. During his years under Peterzano, he was influenced by the outside art works of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and other Northern arts. While his life was building up to the moment he became rich off of his creativity, it helped him become the man he is today. No matter how unique his life has been, one thing has been a constant in his life, along with many others; He was influenced by the color and personality shown through a piece of art, which was the intent in the first place.
For how we receive information bears vitally on the ways we experience and interpret reality” (Birkerts31). He explains how vitally important reading and thinking is. Plus, he mentions how we are shifting from vertical to horizontal reading. Vertical reading is someone who reads about a topic thoroughly and gains a lot of information. To simplify, Birkerts wants everyone to think vertically in everyday life and Andy Goldsworthy seems to agree with him and Goldsworthy‘s vertical thinking is shown when he is creating his arts. In the movie “Rivers and Tides” Goldsworthy shows that an art is meant to be ephemeral. In other words, a piece of art will destroy in a time period. Considering Andy Goldsworthy’s work we’ll just assume that it decays, just because he works with things already in the immediate environment around him and it looks like, yes because of that factor it must. What Andy Goldsworthy was talking about in stating that “the very thing that brings it to life causes its death” is this idea that when something in the environment decays, another one of its kind is produced from that decay. Artist Andy Goldsworthy has a very specific style, creating mostly temporary art using nature as both his materials and his setting. His works range from gold leaf covered rocks to a photo of him throwing a string of kelp into the sky for it to contort into some seemingly random shape. Adam and Louis Comfort Tiffany, two American brothers, began a company to create beautiful furnishings and art, especially stained glass.
