What is happiness? Some may ask what happiness really means; according to Webster happiness is an obsolete good fortune, a state of well being and contentment. Jane McGonigal author of the essay called “The four secrets to making our own happiness”, mentions in this article about how she believes we have to create our own happiness, and that it simply comes from rewarding activities. But others may disagree with that statement, happiness to some is categorized as obsolete, something that is no longer in use or useful, as stated in the Webster Dictionary. Happiness to some is something that they say never existed or they never see past the bad to the good. (pg. 368, McGonigal) To someone who is extrinsic this would be what drives them, because these types of people thrive on money, material goods, status and praise. They like to know that if they have the prestigious job such as a doctor, lawyer, professor, they would have the status of being wise, knowledgeable people. Furthermore they would have the money to buy the amazing car and the gorgeous house to have the dinner parties and get praised for their accomplishments. When these types of individuals get what they want that is when they are the happiest. We are always going to want the improved and better cars and house for our status to grow larger. But once we get the lavish car and enormous house we will then want a larger house and faster more luxurious car. Why, because the cravings of a person who is extrinsic thrives on the martial object that will never truly get them to an point where they can say they are genuinely
