The health care system in the United States of America has been an ongoing issue for years to come. America has many issues to resolve concerning health coverage that could improve by taking learning from successful countries. Examining the different countries from the documentary “Sick Around the World”, who have the top health care systems throughout the world could help America improve and fill the gaps in our health care system. In the documentary “Sick Around the World”, we learn about the health care goals and stipulations of various countries around the world. With the Affordable Care Act, everyone is either required to be insured or pay a fine every year for not being insured. One way or another, U.S. citizens must buy into the system. If an American citizen is not covered by their employer, does not qualify for government assistance or can’t afford insurance on their own, they will be required to pay a fee according to their income and household size by the end of the year. Although, our health care is not universal, requiring everyone to buy into the system could at least reduce the overall cost of health care. This could reduce the overall cost of health care and is beneficial when it comes to taking care of the less fortunate citizens of America. However, there will still be millions of individuals still uninsured and taking a huge risk by not being covered. This does not do much for us as a country in reducing the amount of bankruptcy in America that is a result of medical bills. According to Huffington Post reporter, J. However, as stated in video “Sick Around the World”, health care should be a basic human right. We should not be having to file for bankruptcy just to stay alive in our country. America seems to be more concerned with the flourishing of businesses, rather than the citizens. The pattern that I noticed in the five countries that were interviewed in “Sick Around the World” had many things in common. Amongst all, hospitals and doctors were not getting paid as well as the American equivalent. Hospitals in some countries were suffering and in financial deficit because the government prioritized the citizens.
