Health care in America tends to be a gray area for citizens without prior experience with medical issues. Michael Moore an American filmmaker discusses in his documentary “Sicko” the unpleasant experience some Americans had to go through because of our health care system. Moore implements humor to his documentary by inserting comical music, images, and narration in spots that help his argument gain attention. He also travels abroad to places like Canada, France, and Cuba, where universal health care is supported. He does this in order to provide reason why universal health care is a good ideas by capturing the different emotions and opinions of individuals in those countries versus what people think in America. In addition, Moore provides evidence on why the United States should adopt a different health care system by providing facts like the life expectancy and cost of health care in America compared to other countries. Michael Moore’s main goal is to inform the audience as well as introduce his argument that our health care system is inadequate and that better solutions are out there like universal health care. Michael Moore’s emphasizes that our health care system is run for profits and supports his argument by providing horror situations citizens went through to get medical attention. Moore introduces a man by the name of Rick, who accidently sawed off the tops of his middle finger and ring finger. Moore indicates that Rick was given an outrageous amount of charge for the operations of both his fingers. Rick opted for the less expensive operation of his ring finger ($12,000) instead of paying for his middle finger ($60,000). Moore’s second opposing viewpoint was discussed with a couple from France. The couple described that their important expenses were only paying for their apartment. Moore did not affectively address the taxes issue. He also interviewed a handpicked couple to illustrate an upright life of living in a universal health system. In the end, Michael Moore did an outstanding job voicing his argument. He provided good comparison with cheerful health patient abroad versus the unsatisfied medical patients in America. He got my attention by specifying the cost of medication in the United States compared to inexpressive prescription in a universal health system. Overall Michael Moore did pursuay his argument affectively that our country can adopt a better health system even form Cuba.
