In this essay, I will consider several popular articles and theories discussed by well-know philosopher and writers that will help me explain my decision to my counter group members. The scenario here is that I been asked to participate in an advisory panel for publishing company preparing a text book on “Professional Ethics and Ethics in the Workplace.” My task is to recommend that weather the next edition of the text should include a section addressing racism and discrimination in the work place. However, there are two opinions in the panel. Members of group A argue that racism is an ethical issue that should be included in the text. Racism and discrimination in the work place is still a very common issue, unfortunately. However, in most of the cases it can go unnoticed unless the employer or a person who is discriminating admits; no one can say for sure why the employer made a particular decision to hire a certain individual or gave another person a promotion. Some the examples to this are when employer fails to hire or promote someone because to their race, gender, age and sexual orientation. Whichever the case maybe, any form of racial discrimination in the workplace is strictly prohibited by federal and state laws. Regardless of these laws, numbers of people are still experiencing racial discrimination. In one of the articles by The Guardian, according to the survey conducted by The Guardian research team, “the 30% of the employees in the UK had witness or experienced racial harassment in the workplace firsthand in last year (2014).” The article also states that “a British-born, …show more content…

Someone must start including work place racism and discrimination in the ethical textbook. Otherwise, we this issue will never be addressed, and it will never come end to it if we just wait for someone to act first. In the article The Probable of Sadhu, Stephen wonders “what the Sherpas would have done if the sadhu had been a well-dressed Nepali, or what the Japanese would have done if the sadhu had been a well-dressed Asian, or what you would have done, Buzz, if the sadhu had been a well-dressed Western woman?” Similarly, do we want to wait until we experience or become a victim of work place racism and discrimination to start addressing these issues in the Ethics books? It is essential that we must work together to find a solution to deal with these ethical dilemmas.
