People within the healthcare industry are hesitant when it comes to technological advances because there have been trials and failures. But a former employee of Amazon said that the industry should be ready for what’s to come. There are no hesitations in what the company would do next. Healthcare has been a focus for the company for quite some time. “Healthcare might be highly regulated, and complicated, but that wouldn’t stop a company that once set an agenda to digitize every book in print.” (Farr, 2018) There are many other opportunities that are open to Amazon that are far less complicated than the healthcare business. Even with that said, Amazon will still try out the healthcare business, but may only find successes in few areas. While Amazon works together with companies like Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan, it may ultimately change the game by making health insurance become more affordable and attainable. As for opportunity costs, Amazon’s opportunity cost would be not going into the healthcare industry. They may have influential ideas that will inevitably be a game changer for everyone in the United States. This even goes as far as the benefits that they are looking into for the older generation, like their partnership with AARP. People who are retired or are on a single fixed income will need guidance and assistance with their healthcare choices; there are not very many. This very well will change the outlook on the healthcare industry and what is to come. Other things that will change for businesses in the healthcare industry will be cost, cost of items produced, cost of items sold and the profits that are made.
