Alcohol and Smoking
The drinking age is 21. The smoking age is 18. What do you think the ages should be? Do you think that young kids would listen to it? Or do you think that people will stop buying for them? Most kids find someone to make a fake ID for them or to buy them alcohol. It’s not really hard to find someone, you tell them that you are going to give them some extra money and they buy it for you. You can get away with a lot of things these days. You can also have someone buy you cigarettes, now days it’s their parents that do it or they have older siblings doing it for them. Drinking and smoking has become a big thing for people under the age or 21 or 18. Most people under that age think it makes them look cool, or do it under peer pressure; there are many situations to where the parents smoking and then the children start to smoke. Smoking is a bad habit to start.
I can’t say much because I smoke. I know it is bad and all, but I’m 18 and my body is mine. I started when I was young and it kills me to see other people start smoking. It was one of the worse decisions I made, but I am dealing with it slowly. I don’t want to see these people at the ages of 10 to 16 smoking. I don’t understand people now, letting there kids smoke and drink. Its like no one cares about the next generation, we need to stop people from making stupid decision. The other day I was driving in Quincy and there was this kid in the car next to me smoking, he didn’t look 18 years old and neither did his buddy. That stuff just sickness me though. How can you just sit there and let someone smoke and drink their life away!
We have all been to that high school party, well I think anyway. If you haven’t been, it’s not like the movies, movies are meant to...

...y people don’t believe it but I smoke because it takes some of my stress away. I couldn’t tell you if that was true or not, because I have no clue. I think the cigarette is just an outlet for problems. When I went through my bad breakup with Andrew I turned to cigarettes. I thought they helped but now it has just put me in the hole. I heard on the radio the other day that they are trying to band menthol cigarettes because they crystallize your lungs. I really don’t know what they mean by that, all I know is that the picture of it looks horrible.
So what would you do if you child starting smoking and drinking and you found out about it? Would you be mad or just push it off? Many of these questions are asked everyday, maybe to yourself or from another parent. We need to stop young kids from doing horrible things to their body so that our next generation can make it.
This issue hit home for me because it puts many people at risk for things such as car accidents, binge drinking, alcoholism, depression, suicide, and rape, things no one should ever experience, let alone in middle or high school. These reasons are why the legal age to purchase, and consume alcohol should remain at 21 years of age.
Nowadays, fake IDs are hardly used because many young adults at the age of 18 find a way to binge drink, which may cause them to become heavier drinkers by the time they are legal to drink. Alcohol is a is a beverage that is known as a drug and it depresses the CNS. Lowering the drinking age will cause this effect to take over young adults, and this is a huge factor in why the drinking age is now 21. After a couple drinks, many people will start to slur their speech, their motor ability slows down, and alcohol also causes blurry vision. We can sum up the reasons why the drinking age was raised to 21 because many people don’t really think when they are drunk on alcohol.
...e minimum legal drinking age in the United States should remain at twenty-one years old. Since the National Legal Drinking Age Act was ratified, the consumption of liquor among minors has abated significantly. With the restriction in affect, the United States is definitely a safer place when it comes to alcohol use. Even though, the reduction of the drinking age would get rid of the taboo that surrounds alcohol which would result in fewer teens drinking just to be accepted by their peers, young adolescents now have a harder time getting access to alcohol due to the minimum legal drinking age resulting in less alcohol-affiliated problems and a decrease in damage to their bodies. Teens and alcohol are not a good mix so citizens of the United States should keep them separated as best as they can. By having a minimum age limit of twenty-one, that is a great way to do it.
...d help the stores, and the local stores might just have a better chance of getting more money, but others think it would be a great idea. Underage drinking may cost problems, and way of having problems with family, friends, and school, but they are wrong. Drinking at a young age, may just make everything worst. There are many drinking the more emotions, and nothing good ever came out of it. It just may make you someone you never wanted to be. young adults underage drinking has caused most accidents. Young adults have been dying more and more since they’re taken advantage of it. the’re been getting in car crashes, and parents are being more protected, but young adult just don’t listen, and they never learn. some people want the age to be higher, not just 21. some say leave it the way it is. Adults of the age of 21 are mature and they understand what they are doing.
Eighty percent of smokers began smoking before they turned eighteen (Statistic Brain-Underage Smoking Statistic). Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer in America. Adolescents are smoking cigarettes and other tobacco products more each day. Young people aren’t aware of the effects that smoking has on their body, some know the effects and still smoke to look “cool” or “popular”. The truth is that they are just slowly killing themselves. “Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life” (Shields).
Smoking is a lifestyle, a habit, and a trend. Smoking has become a social activity among teens, connecting them through the craving of a smoke. Smoking is seen as seductive and cool in the media and movies which influences teenagers to smoke even more. The World Health Organization has stated that “Tobacco kills around 6 million people each year. More than 5 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while more than 600,000 are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke.” As of April 2016, only 7% of teenagers in the U.S. smoke, but it is said that tobacco use will kill 8 million people annually by 2030. 99% of adult smokers start in their years as teenagers. Smoking is an epidemic that has taken control of people’s lives since 1881 and the media since the early 1900s. Smoking currently kills about 440,000 people a year in the U.S. I feel that it is an issue because it is the #1 most preventable way to die, but people still continue to smoke because of how it looks and how they are perceived as a person if they do. The fact that people become addicted to a trend that will attribute to their death for the sake of being thought of as cooler, is a problem that needs to be addressed.
Alcohol related mortality rates are caused by alcoholism. Alcoholism is defined as an addiction to alcohol consumption. Alcohol has existed since the creation of agriculture thousands of years ago. Agriculture provided individuals with access to alcohol and it was not until developed research realized it was an addictive substance. The production and availability of alcohol has led to the rise of addiction. Addiction is a growing problem in current society. One of the major triggers of addiction is known to be stress. Stress is a major risk factor for many health related issues in society today. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has created a medical diagnosis known as alcohol use disorder or AUD. They use a Diagnostic
Cigarette contains different poisonous ingredients, and nicotine is the one that creates addiction and leads to different diseases. Smoking cigarette is one of the worst problems our world is facing and the main reason for this term to be stressful is its consequence. Cigarette can cause different diseases that can directly or indirectly lead to death; “tobacco use is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the united states” (cigarette smoking). Most of the time this consequence highly exists on young smokers or victims can be affected by the consequence because they started smoking young. In the United States 18 is the legal age for smoking cigarette and people are still using this law, but it is now the right time for a change because young citizens were affected a lot as a result of early age smoking. Instead of setting the age limit of smoking cigarette 18, we have to raise it to 21 because of the responsibility, Health issue, and since the alcohol drinking and marijuana smoking age Is 21, we have to use the same age limit for smoking cigarette.
A 2001 survey found that 69.4 percent of teenage smokers reported never being asked for proof of age when buying cigarettes in a store. The same survey found that 62.4 percent were allowed to buy cigarettes even when the retailer was aware they were under eighteen. Cigarette smoking is very harmful to both smokers, non- smokers and the environment. People who smoke just show how inconsiderate they are towards others. Even the people who do not smoke in public places are selfish.
Experiencing the death of a loved one is never easy, especially when the cause is something self-inflicted, such as cigarettes. Imagine if that loved one was your parent or even worse, your own child. Now, imagine watching the demise and physical incapacities that transpire while you see them deteriorate right in front of you. Feel the anger that would coarse through your veins if you were to see an add that glamorized such deadly instruments, particularly once you realize that the areas being marketed are lower class. Cigarettes are legal killers that cripple many individuals and families alike. They are a highly addictive substance that benefit no one. I am against cigarettes in every capacity as I have dealt with the effects of it on a personal level. Cigarettes leave a distaste in the mouth literally and figuratively. I am also a firm believer that
In recent years, smoking has started to take over the lives of many teenagers. The number of teenagers smoking has increased dramatically in the last several years. This is a major problem because smoking can lead to sickness and major diseases that can lead to death. Teens tend to participate in this while out of the presence of an adult figure. Although teens should not be smoking in the first place, an adult figure should be around to help insure that their children are doing the right things, even when they are behind sealed doors with their peers. Teenagers as they mature become a model for younger children and when they set the example of smoking can ruin their respectable image to the children that look up to them.
Guess what? Even children who live in a smoking environment are influenced to become a smoker as they grow up; smoking has a huge impact on our younger generation as they are negatively influenced by this habit and we as adults are responsible for it. Many people don’t know this is a serious issue but they regard it as normality.
Smoking is one of the leading killers in North America and innocent. people shouldn't die because of it. For years people have been smoking. in public thinking, "It's my body, I can do whatever I want to do." now that it has been proven that smoking not only harms the smoker.
Alcohol and drug abuse is one of biggest problems in United States today. It is not only a personal problem that dramatically affects individuals' lives, but is a major social problem that affects society as whole. "Drug and alcohol abuse", these phrases we hear daily on the radio, television or in discussions of social problem. But what do they mean or what do we think and understand by it? Most of us don't really view drug or alcohol use as a problem, if that includes your grandmother taking two aspirins when she has a headache or your friends having few beers or drinks on Saturday night. What we really mean is that some drugs or alcohol are being used by some people or in some situations constitute problem with which our society must deal. It becomes a real problem when using or I should say abusing drugs cause accidents, antisocial behavior, broken relationships, family instability, crime and violence, poverty, unsafe streets and highways, worker absenteeism and nonproductivity, and the most tragic one death. The situation in which the drug or alcohol uses accurse often makes all the difference. The clearest example is the drinking of alcohol, when individual begins to drink during the job, at school, or in the morning, we have evidence that indicates a potential drinking problem. If a person takes narcotic drug because he just wrecked his knee while his physician prescribed playing football and the drug, most of us would be not concerned. If, on the other hand, he took the same drug on his own just because he likes the way it makes him feel, then we should begin to worry about him developing dependence. Even use of illegal drugs are sometimes acceptable, but it also depends on situation, for example in some countries smoking marijuana is legal just like drinking alcohol in United States. Some subcultures even in United States that accept the use of illegal drugs may distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable situation, some college age groups might accept marijuana smoking at a party on weekends, but not just before going to a calculus class. Most of people would accept a fact that a bartender or a waiter who is working at a night club is having a beer or a drink on his break or that a landscape worker is having a cold beer with his lunch on a hot summer day. I'm not saying that it is "OK" but we wouldn't complain a...
Smoking is a bad habit that is not only harmful to myself, but also to the people around me, namely my wife and children. They are the ones that receive the most harmful and the most concentrated amounts of smoke. I inhale through a filter, my wife and children do not.
