Comparing my self-introduction speech (my first speech), to my persuasive speech (my last speech) was interesting. They were completely different topics but with a slight improvement in speaking ability. I increased my ability to maintain eye contact while I reduced the amount of nervous body language. I saw improvements in my speech preparation and structure, as well as in the delivery of the speech.
First I am going to talk about the difference in eye contact and nervous body language between the first speech and the last speech. In my first speech my face was flushed a cherry red, I was shaking, and every time I would try to make eye contact I would lose all train of thought. The Declaration of Independence and "I Have A Dream" speech have much in common, as in they both were created in time of when America wanted change. As well as what we use in present day to help shape the country. They were both very effective, but in a different ways.
The delivery of my speech portrays a sense of calmness and seriousness. I used this style of speaking to show the importance of my subject, lack of organ donors. Throughout the presentation I used note cards as a guide and frequently made eye contact with my audience. When giving facts that I felt were important I made sure to look at the camera to show there significance. I also added my input into some of the facts to try and convince my listeners to become organ donors
Though I had some strong points in my informative speech, I still feel there was a lot I could improve upon. I could not recognize any vocalized pauses but I noticed that at certain points of speech where I would transition from one point to another, I would push my glasses up. I don’t remember if this was because my glasses were actually slipping down or because I was nervous. Also, after watching my video, I found that in the beginning of the speech I was swaying a lot, but because I was standing behind the table it wasn’t that noticeable. Both of the speeches, Martin Luther King's and Cesar Chavez', are powerful peices and communicate one vision: equality. King and Chavez have two very different styles of writing but the message from both is simmilar. for example both king and chavez discuss how their people are discriminated against because of their skin color, and how their people have neither the right to vote in the the south, nor the will to vote in the north , and in Chavez' situation, to have their vote counted. however similar their message's may be, their writing styles are different. Chavez talks about statistics, about why and how his people are treated. king held that the atrocitys commited against his people were self evident and as such did not need to be proved to anyone. kings message was meant to encompass the entire Uninted States while Chavez' was directed primarily at California.
Chapter 8 talks about poise. Poise is a major key for speeches. Just about every speech giver suffers from nerves, regardless of who they are and how much experience they have. The chapter discuss how people over exaggerate the fear of public speaking. Many articles talk about how the fear of public speaking is bigger than the fear of death, yet Palmer talked about how any student that he has assigned a speech has delivered it, and not done half bad. Chapter 8 talks about how confidence plays a significant role in your poise. It also talks about how we must learn our flaws, such as annoying gestures. We then must find a way to break the habits. Bad habits lead to the audience getting distracted. Once you have a disengaged audience, people begin to start getting less and less from your speech. The book also talks about the

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln are role models to almost everyone in the world because of there great act. When both men deliver the speech they were talking about the same things. Both speeches target slavery, racism, slave owners, and the government. Their purpose was to convince everyone that the world would be a more pleasing place without the racism and slavery. They're trying to persuade the people and government that slavery should be banned. Therefore, they talk about the same thing but in different tone. The similarity are that they use a lot of devices to get there point clear like anaphora, allusion, and ethos.
During my demonstration speech, I was affected by my speech anxiety. Some of the viewable symptoms were the shaking of my hands and also the stuttering of speech. I was able to control myself and relax after I started getting into my information. I did use some of the suggested relaxation techniques to relieve my anxiety. Before I got up to speak I thought confident of myself to help give me courage and confidence.
This communication made me aware of the few things I need to improve when I’m having a conversation with anyone. I realised that my weakness is talking to strangers and I’m often nervous which makes me so unclear when I’m clear and I speak quite fast and get it over with, Therefore one those things that I need to improve is that I should speak clearly and learn to structure my sentence well, because I cannot have eye contact with someone I should always look at their forehead as it makes it look like I’m having eye contact with them. I should also be able not speak to fast especially when speaking to an Elderly person; I should also be able to be more specific.
I believe that, if I feel nervous in the future, I will not be afraid of this emotion like what I did before. This course provided me knowledge on how to make me relax. Little by little, I have gained the confidence of combating the fear of public speaking in this course. All these precious experience will continue benefiting me in the future. Thus, I am proud to say that I have fullfilled the course objectives and enhanced my public speaking
"I Have A Dream" and "Victory Speech" are two amazingly powerful speeches delivered by two big leaders of the American nation: Martin Luther King and Barack Obama. Both of these speeches are united in the hopes of creating a better country and achieving the American dream. The two discourses are an introduction to a change or to an improvement. Although these speeches are fairly similar, their purposes and audience are different.
I feel like I made really good eye contact in most of my speeches because I was always taught to look someone in the eye when I spoke to them. I also have really good memory so I could easily remember things about a topic or about a memory to share with the class and be able to tell the story or information correctly. My eye contact was a really big strength for me and I think it helped me in a lot of the speeches I did. The speech I think I made the most eye contact and was able to keep my thoughts together, was my impromptu speech when I talked about me and Arley’s relationship. I was able to give so much eye contact because I was not nervous and was able to speak about something I knew a lot about and the topic fit me fairly well. My other strength was memorization and that came in handy during my informative speech. I felt like my informative speech was one of the best speeches I gave due to the knowledge I had of the topic. I was able to remember important information and that made me more calm knowing I would be able to sail through the speech without going
I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement. In my first speech, “The any old bag speech” I quickly learned the do’s, don’ts and concepts of my speech performance.
In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy.
