Growing up in a small, Appalachian town in rural Ohio I have learned a lot about community and showing compassion to others. I have also seen the effects of poverty on education, access to healthcare, and overall quality of life. This background has fueled my desire for a career where I can work with people on a personal level and give back to my local community. When I discovered the field of speech-language pathology at a career fair my senior year of high school, I realized this career would help me achieve both of these goals.
