Question 1. Review the National Organization of Human Services website: Identify the 8 VALUES (not Standards) of the human services profession. Describe what each value means to you as a professional in training and discuss what attitudes and behaviors are associated with each value. There is eight fundamental values of the human services profession. They all possess a unique quality. Knowing and practicing these values aids in providing adequate service to those in need. The eight fundamental values of human service profession are as follows: respecting the dignity and welfare of all people; promoting self-determination; honoring cultural diversity; and acting with integrity, honesty, genuineness and objectivity. (NOHS, Pg. 1) When I think of these values individually I define them as follows: Respecting the dignity and welfare of all people- This act is done by practicing its title. Respecting individual’s ignominy is vital and helps to build admiration and regard. Respect should be displayed for all people and helpers should remove all bias when servicing those in need. Patriotism and prosperity should be transparent and the well-being of those in need should be priority. Helpers are entitled to their own opinions and beliefs but, their principles shouldn’t be imposed on others. …show more content…

This act is not the decision of the human service professional, the service user must make the decision on their own to change. The human service professional is there to guide, affirm, and provide resources for the betterment of the service user. Being assertive and affirming ones attributes is a plus with promoting self-determination.
