A human service profession can be defined as a holistic and wellness approach that attempts to understand the individuals within the context of their career, love, and relationships, and group interaction from the counseling profession. According to Woodside &McClam(2015, p. 5), human service is derived from six perspectives such as the themes and purpose of human service, the interdisciplinary nature of human service, the helping relationship, management principles, professional and professional activities. These all six aspects are unique needs of individuals, families and communities. In human service work, social workers need to specialized body of knowledge and skill for each practice setting, each special population group, and each psychosocial issue. The purpose of this interview is to explore human service professional in their work environment, and observe human service professional in their particular settings, what type of education is required for their position of choice. The human services profession has a variety of populations that they serve; this is a wide array of people. Human service professionals serve populations such as, high-risk mothers who may have shortfalls in education, psychosocial, nutritional, and little or no transportation. Another is the homeless population, lack housing due to being unable to afford, or maintain safe and adequate housing. The elderly is a population that is increasing, there needs range from chronic illness, lack of or little education, mentally, financial, loss of independence, and stereotyping. They serve those diagnose with a chronic illnesses, such illnesses may be diagnoses of , high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, there is also the chronic mentally ill who are consider high risk, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD(attention deficit hyperactive disorder). These are just a few of the services that a human service professional may work with.

Define the term “the whole person” and explain why this is important in human services and explain the components of “the whole person”. When a client comes in for help, they come in as individuals that have a multifaceted perspective that includes psychological, biological, cultural, social, financial, educational, vocational, and spiritual components (Woodside & McClam, 2015). All these components encompass life experiences that they have been through with family, friends, their health, school, work, their legal status, residency, their safety and security, their finances, their well-being, and their accomplishments (Woodside & McClam, 2015). The perspective is integrated with the individual which forms the whole person (Woodside & McClam, 2015). The term the whole person is important in human services because when a client comes in they are not coming in with just a single problem and as human service professionals we have to look at the issue and address it as a whole instead of a single issue (Woodside & McClam, 2015).
As a student new to social work, The Code of Ethics written by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is in the forefront of my mind whenever practicing my freshly learned skills. According to the Code, these rules were written as the “values, principles, and standards to guide social workers’ conduct” (Code of Ethics - NASW, n.d.). Within my most-recent session, certain aspects of this code were relevant, including informed consent, privacy and confidentiality, a commitment to the client, the dignity and worth of a person, the importance of human relationships, integrity and competency of the worker, and social diversity.

Due to the nature of the service HSOs provide to their clients, these organisations possess unique attributes which distinguishes them from other types of organisations such as commercial organisations. As a result, any changes to the status quo of these organisations cannot be predicted in the same way that similar change in commercial organisations does. Regardless of the change that occurs in these organisations, it is hard to determine how the clients, the ultimate beneficiaries; will not only interpret the change but also how the client will behave as a result of their interpretation. According to Professor Hillel Schimid, ‘‘of all the factors that are subject to change in an organisation, the human factor is considered the most difficult and complex change.’’ Despite their extensive knowledge and experience social workers and other professionals are often times surprised by the responses of their clients when interventions are implemented. Some of these clients revert to their prior behavioural patterns because of change, as a result of the counter-production many workers often tend to maintain the status quo and avoid dealing with the need to change or improve their client’s behaviour. However, workers must realise that this fear of change is not beneficial to clients in the long run, simply because the change whether technological or structural, should be an opportunity for workers to teach their clients how to accept changes and learn how to adapt to it through skills training. While it can be a daunting process of disrupting the status quo, it appears to me that some workers are more afraid of disrupting their own predictable work environments in order to maintain their routines, but never-the-less change is inevitable, ...
