Choose three of the seven points on the leadership loop and discuss why it would be important in the role of an OHS professional. The seven points on the leadership loop are caring, learning, appreciating, contributing, verbalising, leading(influencing), and succeeding.
Learning: As an OHS professional, taking interest in people and getting to know people is an important aspect of leadership. An OHS professional should be a leader and a mentor that listens to the concerns of the workforce and the health and safety concerns of the employees. It also makes workers have a sense of ownership in the safety management process. It is impossible for a team to succeed if respect is not at the core of the team relationship. This will ensure that workers see value in sharing their opinions and in expressing their concerns about the health and safety issues in the workplace. When workers are valued, it becomes possible to develop, encourage and support the worker to be in line with the safety initiative of the organization.
Verbalizing: Affirming people is important in the field of health and safety. When an OHS professional shows affirmation by providing positive feedback to the safe behaviors and actions of the employees, he is able to improve the safety culture. By affirming good safety qualities in workers, a positive reinforcement is given to encourage same.
