In researching about the Twelve Stages of Development I have a new look about life and how we grow in the people we are today. You have twelve developmental stages pre-birth, birth, infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, late childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, midlife, mature adulthood, late adulthood and death. These all make us the person we are today and help us grow. Each human has to go through each stage in its lifetime. There are a lot of stages you have to go through to development and grow everything you need to survive. There are five stages you have to go through forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Each gives a different meaning and description of the human life development. Erik Erikson developed eight psychosocial stages that occur through life. These stages help parents of younger children understand what the child is thinking and why they are acting the way that they do. For a person to become a well-rounded adult they need to succeed in each level. This essay will discuss the first six stages into young adulthood.
Erikson believed that people develop in psychosocial stages. He emphasized developmental change throughout the human life span. In Erikson's theory, eight stages of development result as we go through the life span. Each stage consists of a crisis that must be faced. According to Erikson, this crisis is not a catastrophe but a turning point. The more an individual resolves the crises successfully, the healthier development will be.

There are eight periods of human development that include, prenatal period, infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, and late adulthood. These eight periods make up the three major developmental periods; child, adolescent and adult development.
The Developmental stage I chose is Integrity vs. Despair. This stage starts at 65 years of age and older and is the last stage of development. Erickson’s developmental stages build upon each other and the successful or unsuccessful accomplishment of tasks defines the way an older adult looks at their life. As the name of the stage states at this point the older adult evaluates life accomplishments and failures in life. The successful accomplishment of this stage is based on the other developmental stages being successfully achieved as well.
As children grow towards adolescence they go through many stages of development. Child development refers to the stages of physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language growth that occurs from the birth to beginning of adulthood. All aspects of a child's development may be affected by many different factors, including a poor learning environment, lack of social interaction, cultural background differences, abuse, and loss of a parent. All of the before mentioned examples can affect the child's maturation, "a biological growth process that enables orderly changes in behavior, relatively uninfluenced by experience" (Myers 172). Children grow and mature at very different rates, some faster than others, which is why it is necessary to understand the importance of the different types of child development. Though all parts of child development are important, it is probably language learning that is most important to a child's development as a whole.
The process of development can be divided into different stages based on perspective. The events that an individual will experience throughout their life span can be linked back to developmental stages. Paul Baltes’s life span perspective revolves around the concept that development is a process that is lifelong, multidirectional, multidimensional, plastic, multidisciplinary, and contextual.
Each person’s life consists of normal stages of development; this is known as life span development. This development starts at infancy and continues through death. In each stage of development, each person experiences four types of development; physical, cognitive, social, and personality.
