Since this school year started I have been trying to do better when it comes to my diet. When my stress level gets high, I tend to eat more of the wrong items. I am now asking myself what could be next, what will the doctor say when you come in for a checkup? Chronic illnesses or diseases come to mind because with the bad diet choices I am making at a young age they will in turn lead to diseases that are definitely harmful to my health. Chronic diseases according to the textbook are, “diseases that come on slowly and can persist for years, often despite treatment” (pg. 4). Some of these diseases can include: diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, and high blood pressure.
Diabetes is a type of chronic disease in which the body stops being able to regulate the glucose levels on its own. I think that this is one chronic illness that I could possibly gain because it runs in my family, and this gives me a higher probability of developing it. I do not know whether changing my diet will do much help if the gene is already inside of me, but I do think that it cannot hurt to try. I want to become a healthier me and I cannot do that without fully understanding the risks that I am putting my body at if I continue down the path that I am already on, or even continue to not work out on a regular basis. These articles have taught me that I need to do better not only for myself, but for my family as well. After reading all of this information, I have learned that I need to make better life choices in a way that will turn my life around in a healthier way. I now know that I need to change my diet from salty, and saturated foods in order to live a long, and healthy life. I will be more cautious about what I am eating and when I decide to eat. I do not want to gain high cholesterol, diabetes, or become
