The American Dream
Does the migration of immigrants really have a negative effect on the U.S? Due to the recent economic problems our country has been suffering from, immigrants are usually the ones blamed for because they are said to be taking away jobs and opportunities in this country. The way migrants are treated and taken advantage of because there desire to work and reach closer towards the “American Dream” is said to be getting in the way of citizen jobs. What many people fail to see is that immigration brought more opportunities into America than people think. They create new jobs by creating new businesses and paying taxes. They also provide cheap labor for many industries which keeps the American economy functioning. Immigrants are also often bringing the best talents and skills to America which helps our country remain competitive. Their arrival to the United States is benefiting us in many great ways.
Do you really believe that all businesses and companies in this country are formed by United State born citizens? Studies show that “Here in the United States,16.7 percent of all new business owners are migrants from different countries”(Bellows). They own a variety of different types of businesses such as Restaurants, Grocery stores, Landscaping companies and also roofing jobs with positions for those who are low skilled and higher positions for the high skilled employees. Many people always think that immigrants take away jobs for Americans but these opportunities aren’t only available for more migrant workers but for the U.S. citizens as well. Immigrants do not have a direct negative impact on U.S. citizens workers, if anything immigrants and U.S. citizens generally complement each other.

They have a higher chance to start businesses than the American-born workers. Therefore immigrants are not increasing the labor market competition for American born workers but they do affect American workers earnings in a positive way. Studies have shown that “Immigration has caused small but positive gains in wages of American born workers of between 0.1 percent and 0.6 percent between 1990 and 2006”( Greenstone,Looney). However, Immigration may reduce wages for the least skilled workers. But those are the last jobs that the government should look into to protect. The economy was never at its best and with having immigration it makes a more productive economy. The benefits rise time over time with an expanding growth of wealth.
