How Will the Affordable Care Act impact the United States economy It takes very little to disrupt the slow healing progress our nation has undertaken in the wake of the financial crisis of seven years ago. As President Barack Obama has put it, by signing the Affordable Care Act into law, “everyone should have some basic security when it comes to their health care” (Stolberg, Sheryl Gay) . Something as influential as a universal health care bill is no exception to the scale. While many are concerned of the repercussions this will not only have on employment opportunities but also higher taxes, there is a flipped side to the Affordable Care Act. As in its name, health care should be affordable for people of all tax brackets (specifically designed for the lower classes). While the ideas behind the law appear to offer great services for the short-term, it is the long-term effects on the economy that most should be concerned with. In order for something to work in a democratic society, the citizens (or at least their representatives) must represent a majority of the people wanting to pass, revise, or annulled. In the case of the Affordable Care Act, it has been a very unsettled ride since the health reform law was put in place during 2010. The Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-profit foundation that focuses on health care trends in the United States and has conducted a survey every month since the law passed, asking one simple question: “From what you know about the reform bill, do you have a generally favorable or unfavorable opinion about it?” The “unfavorable” vote had reached its lowest level in July of 2010 and has continued to rise since.
