Euthanasia is defined as “The painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma.” Euthanasia has been practiced in a plethora or countries from today’s time, dating back to Ancient Geek and Roman civilization. During that period it was used to assist one another die, which was approved in their society and not seen as problematic. Today, the practice of euthanasia causes a tremendous quarrel. Euthanasia should be looked at with an open-mind and understanding. Therefore, this is a situation where it’s up to the patient if they want to put themselves through euthanasia and no one else’s, it should be strictly between the patients (or spouse if needed) and their physician. Some doctors were interviewed and has admit that they have given heavy doses of medication to relieve the horrific pain of their ill patients, knowing that high doses will cause a faster death. In the words of Gabriel García Márquez in his book Of Love and Other Demons, “That is not true, but we lack the moral authority to endorse them (acts of euthanasia). What we do instead is what you have just seen. We commend the dying to Saint Hubert and tie them to a pillar in order to prolong and intensify their suffering.” With saying that Marquez feels the same as I feel because why must one doctor sit and watch along with the patients family go through a great deal of bitterness and knowing that this person is hurting greatly. Doctor’s primary aim is to relieve pain.
Families are sometimes looked upon to make decisions on whether to take actions that are illegal in ending the life of their love ones who ask of them for death. Some out of desperation, use a gun or the well-known which is hanging themselves and do what they dread to do but are sometimes put in the position to help end the lives of a child and parent.
