Individuality within Education When was the last time a student felt like an individual in the classroom? My guess, not in a long, long time. Getting an education is extremely important but at what cost? In schools all across the country, teachers are doing their jobs, to the best of their ability, as set for them by the school districts. The problem with that, is the student as an individual is lost in test scores and mundane information. Although education provides the fundamentals of life for students with subjects such as reading and math, a stronger emphasis on the student’s individual learning abilities and interests would greatly improve America’s education system. Students at this level are still learning and developing skills needed for life and by this time each student is starting to realize they do not exactly learn like everyone else. There are three types of learning abilities, auditory, visual and kinesthetic or touching. Some students use just one type while others may use a combination of two or all three. As for myself, I need to hear the teacher teaching it; I also need to do whatever I am taught to get a full learning experience. Learning abilities vary from student to student. How do teachers make sure each student is learning at their own pace and in their own way? Sadly, teachers do not usually do this for each student and that leaves most children behind. In the past, I have had teachers just supply me with the information and they would expect me to know it immediately. Often I was the child who was left behind because I was not recognized individually as a student. If schools and teachers worked together to ensure students individual learning abilities were addressed this would allow the students to be more successful in their studies. Although I was left behind in school a lot of the time, on occasion I had a teacher that cared and made sure each of their students was
