War is Finally Over The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial and politically opposed in history. It was one of the first wars to really been shown to the American public because a lot of the action was televised so the American public had a first person view of the war and they were outraged. It was not the fact that the United States did not win, which was the first time since the War of 1812 that they were not successful in their war agenda, but more of the fact the people did not believe the war really meant anything. Most controversial was that many people lost family and friends over a war that they could not win or did not matter to some. Many celebrities including Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King, Jr, and John Lennon were outraged over the war as it seemed that it was not worth the effort. Many people protested in their own way, however, John Lennon had a different approach to his. He took to music to get his point across. Happy Xmas (War Is Over) really showed Lennon’s concern about the war, brought into life the idealist that he really was, and it protested that he just wanted all of the fighting and killing in Vietnam to end.
